Things that make you go hhmm

I wonder which anonymous would answer if you said Good morning anonymous. How are you doing today? Or perhaps Dear anonymous, it brings me great pain to think I hurt your feelings! Can we put this situation behind us? Hhmm I just wonder.

Hi Chryse,

WikiTree allows people to be anonymous as far as their profiles go... there are a variety of reasons for this, and it is explained here under the heading Names for Living People, and some more details can be found on the help page for Anonymization.  Guests and Family members can also remain anonymous.

On G2G if someone posts a question and they are not logged into their WikiTree account or don't have one, it will say "anonymous".

Neither is likely to change in the near future.

I hope this sheds some light on it!

It was just a joke. I read another post about someone getting their feathers ruffled over "anonymous" users. I thought about that song that had the lyric things that make you go hmm, it's the the things that make you go hmm mm hmmm. I can understand why some feel the need for anonymity. I for one can't joke on here. I have no voice just words.
I like that song.  (I caught the joke and smiled).

As a Mentor I try to make sure nobody feels slighted in any way, that's why I posted in support of those who choose anonymity.  I support you, them, and all well meaning WikiTreers.
I understand your position well, I can see where anonymity can be vital. Just imagine if President Obama were doing genealogy, or Queen Elizabeth II.
Exactly!

The poor souls would not be able to Wiki in peace.  Everybody and their mother would be hounding them relentlessly and it would no longer be a comfortable genealogy site for them.  Now they can contribute, work with others on a level field, and participate in G2G without the hassle.  Our own Chris Whitten is a minor celeb in comparison and do you realize how many people contact him each day?  I think the names you just mentioned are good examples of why someone might choose anonymity.
