Please wait for the people most knowledgeable about William Johnson (not me!) evaluate the categorization. It looks like categories were added or edited by a bunch of different members at various times over the last 8 years. It would be useful to have someone who is truly knowledgeable about both Johnson and WikiTree review the whole collection of categories. I'd like for Mark W. to weigh in. Because Johnson engaged with all of the Six Nations and played a big role in their history, I think that category has direct relevance to him -- it is not merely a container category for Mohawk. And while I definitely agree that he was not a United Empire Loyalist, due to the relationships he established with the Iroquois and his sons' roles as Loyalist leaders, I think he may arguably be called a father of the Loyalist movement.

The discussion is about categorization for this man, the Mohawk connection is established from Wikipedia article, although it doesn't appear in his bio.  United Empire Loyalist appers incorrect for him, the category page states NOTE: This category is related to, but distinct from, the category for Category: Loyalists, American Revolution which should only be applied to Loyalist Ancestors.

So, if categorization and other knowledgeable folks could weigh in on this discussion please?

The category page states that it applies to any individual who was "as of 19 April 1775, a resident of the American Colonies".  Since he died 11 June 1774,  the UEL category can't apply to him.

Sir William's profile needs a lot of work.  The first son, James, is listed as born in Ireland, to a New York born mother 19 years old.  There are no accessible documents for either the mother or son with any connection to Sir William.  The son William James also has no records linking him to Sir William.  Johnson's documented son William of Canajoharie (Isabel T. Kelsay, “TEKAWIROÑTE,” in Dictionary of Canadian Biography, vol. 4, University of Toronto/Université Laval, 2003–, accessed October 24, 2022, http://www.biographi.ca/en/bio/tekawironte_4E.html.) is missing.  So are his sons by Molly Brant, Peter Warren and George, and their daughter, Mary.
