Replacing individuals in John Ferguson's tree.

+5 votes
An earlier indication was that David Ferguson (1818-1886) and his wife were the parents of John Ferguson who was married to Margaret Ferguson.

thishowevr turned out not be the case. I have read the FAQ,s on the way to correct this but find that I cannot just delete these individuals?

how do I do the adjustment, without losing the deleted individuals from the world family tree?

I am working line of Johns - surname Johns, so I changed this to show John's surname.  Mags
One of the children of this profile probably has an incorrect birthdate because it looks like it is born in the 1960s.
Roy, When you replace the erroneous parents with the correct ones, please put a note with links to the disconnected parents in the biography, especially if this a long-standing misconception.  That way, when someone else looks at the bio, they will not only know who the correct parents are, the reasons they are correct (your sources), but also who the previous, disconnected parents are.
I looked at John Ferguson.  I noticed his DOB 1838.  He is listed as having  a private Child (indicating living) born in 1960.  That seems to be error, either not his child, or a typo.

Roy,  Use the edit tab to replace the parents.  See the Edit Family section on the right.

Do not worry about the other persons being removed.  They remain as part of Wikitree, albeit unattached to some degree.  They will be found when someone attempts to add them.  They are not lost.

One more thing.  Now that you have found an actual source, be sure to include it in the profile. Additionally, if you think that the "old" parents will be mistakenly added again or find that it is a common mistake.  Add a note on their profiles with your reason and your source.

Thanks for asking!
