I have hardly any family photos of sons.  But I do like this one taken by my father in 1951 or 1952 of his sister Catherine's sons, Steve, Joe, Doug and David.  We used to visit them often in Scituate, Massachusetts (south of Boston, on the coast) during the 1950s.

Pat, thank you for sharing such a great photo. These boys look like they had a good time together.
Pat thank you for sharing this wonderful photo of your fathers family gorgeous photo
Thank you, Alexis.  Dad liked this photo.  He made an 8 by 10 print of it in the darkroom.
Thank you, Susan. Your sweet comments are always appreciated.
These little guys look like sweet rascals just like my Mother’s 4 brothers who shot arrows at her dates. They said it was a mistake -the target was on the back of the door!? Such a lovely photo! Their different personalities are there already. Great pic, Pat!
Thank you, Karen, you're right.  They did have different personalities.  Good observation.

My grandfather taking my dad on his first hunting trip. This was taken around 1955, and I have both of those old shotguns in my collection. I wish we could all go hunting together again.

by John Vaskie G2G6 Pilot (213k points)
John, thank you for sharing such a fabulous photo of your grandfather and father.
John amazing old photo what a treat thank you for sharing
Thanks Alexis and Susan for your kind comments!
I understand your desire to go back to those days. My family were only hunters of fish. My great grandpa was a contest winning fisherman but it wasn’t passed down in the genes. Not that we all haven’t tried. BUT I think I caught the biggest minnow! :)

@Karen. I understand the fishing gene as well. My grandfather was the self proclaimed "Worlds Greatest Fisherman". laugh The fishing gene skipped my dad and landed on me, so I spent countless days walking around local lakes and ponds with Grandpa and loved every minute of it. Thanks for your great comment!

What lovely poses!
Thanks Jim!

This is a photo taken in 1910 in Morris, Oklahoma of my great grandfather Thomas McCleery.   He is with his daughter, my grandmother Pearl, and his two youngest sons, Kyle and Harry.

by Alexis Nelson G2G6 Pilot (843k points)
Alexis gorgeous old photo of your great grandfather with his family thank you for sharing
Great photo, Alexis.  I love that the horses are in the image.  We forget sometimes that all the older pictures feature relations who traveled by horseback, horse and carriage, horse and wagon for short distances.  And this image reminds us of the different world without cars.
Susan, thank you for your sweet comment. This is a favorite photo from my collection, because this was taken a short time after my great grandfather moved his family to Oklahoma.
Pat, thank you for your great comment. I have not been on a horse for several years, but I remember being worn out and sore from only riding a short distance. What a difference cars and airplanes have made.
Zooming in with my IPad, Alexis, your grandmother was beautiful, the boy on the left looks like her and the boy on the right looks like his grandpa. Such a great memory to frame and so to never forget the bravery of the Westward Ho movement despite it’s drawbacks.
Karen, thank you for your very interesting comment. This photo is actually very small to be so wide and clear. I always thought that the two boys looked very different, and I never realized that Kyle looked like my grandmother. You are right; he does look like my grandmother. I know, I must have photos of Harry and his wife, as an older man—but I can’t figure out who he is
I think Harry looks like his Dad without the mustache (chuckle). Pearl looks like a dear! But with a tough spirit.
Karen, you are amazing. Yes, Pearl was a dear lady, and I was certainly fortunate to have her for a grandmother. She has several tragedies in her life, but she always had a smile for everyone.

Here is a picture of my younger brother and me with our father, our grandfather and our great grandfather (which hangs over my desk at home):

by Roger Stong G2G Astronaut (1.3m points)
Roger, thank you for sharing your wonderful photo. You are absolutely adorable with your very serious sweet little face.
So special, Roger, that you have the four generations captured in a photo.  But it's a memorable image that I swear I've seen before.  Is that possible?
A lovely old frame for a special photo that is rarely captured. Our society is so mobile, that families are less likely than ever to all get together at once. If you are the little “wiggle-worm,” then you have a great personality, Roger.
Great picture, Roger. Thanks for sharing. Beautifully matted and framed too.

These are Alma Church's five sons in December 2011.  They were all together to celebrate the youngest son's wedding.  They are arranged youngest to oldest (l. to r.) with my husband David on the far right.

Alma also had four daughters.

by Robin Shaules G2G Astronaut (1.5m points)
Robin, I recognized David right away. He is so handsome. Thank you for sharing photos again. I especially like seeing David, he is such a great looking man.
Thank you, Alexis, for your always kind words. He was a very special person.
Robin, amazing photo Robin the you for sharing
Warm family photo, Robin.  Was this the same David who was a surfer?  Or am I hopelessly confused?
Thank you dear Susan.
Thank you, Pat. You are not hopelessly confused; David surfed for more than 50 years, and was still surfing when this photo was taken.
More than 50 years of surfing is amazing, Robin.  It looks like a difficult sport.  Did you surf too?
HaHa, Pat! I did try and it was thrilling, but I'm afraid I started too late and the cons (cold water (we did not live in Hawaii or warm Southern California), cold air, and being out of condition) outweighed the pros (thrill and joy). I did my part by taking many, many photos and movies of David and his friends surfing.
Only one thing I can say, it’s a good thing your mother had 4 daughters on her team. However the men look like gentlemen. My mother loved her 4 brothers but never called them gentlemen. I’m laughing but they were wonderful uncles  despite their collection of black snakes to scare the girls.
Thanks Karen. Those five men are very different, but their mother had a special place in her heart for each of her boys.
I’m sure she did. She was an amazing woman to have lived through so many pregnancies!!

These 9 young men are all the sons of thankful parents. They were all survivors of at least 1 Japanese POW camp.

Peter Crombie Burns second from the left in the front row was my husband's 1C2R, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Burns-12533

Peter Crombie Burns served with the Royal Rifles of Canada, he signed up in 1939 at age 18. He arrived in Hong Kong on November 16, 1941. On Christmas Day 1941, all allied troops in Hong Kong surrendered to the Japanese army.

Peter Crombie Burns was a prisoner in 3 POW camps, Fort Stanley, Hong Kong Island, North Point, Hong Kong Island and Shamshuipo Kowloon, Hong Kong. The camp was liberated on August 30, 1945.  The picture is copied to his profile with thanks to the Hong Kong Veterans Commemorative Association. The photo was taken in September 1945, after the camp was liberated and before Peter's arrival back in Canada on October 13th, 1945.

Thank you for reminding us again what our veterans and all soldiers have gone through in defending their countries. I have read so much tragic and unthinkable about what POWs have been subjected to during the wars, I almost stopped reading. I get nauseated. You are right, lucky parents!
At a loss for words. Thanks for sharing this!

My dad (left) and his two brothers Lyle, and Spencer, at Hoover Dam some time before 1987, sons of Walter Didrik Williams.

by Mark Williams G2G6 Pilot (355k points)
If you look like these fellows, Mark, you are a handsome fellow yourself! Did they like the Dam?
Thanks for your kind words, Karen. I think they just enjoyed being able to get together where ever that happened to be. My dad at 89 is the only one still with us. Actually the family says that I take more after my mom. I still have hair. lol

Two of my cousins Peter and Roger Stefani, sons of Birdie and Londo, taken in April 1964 at Blackpool, England,

by Christine Frost G2G6 Pilot (151k points)
Which cousin was your favorite, Christine? I’m trying to figure out if Birdie or Londo was the mother. I’m not one to talk because I called my grandma Ummy. :) From then on everyone stuck her with that name. Tots can wreak havoc. I couldn’t say Emily.
Birdie was my Dad's sister (Bertha, but called Birdie from birth, because my Grandad thought she looked like a little bird!) Londo was her Italian husband (Orlando). Well, I don't like having favourites, they were a lovely family altogether, but I have to say Roger, the one on the left, was always a special cousin to me.

My grandfather's sons, "Jack" John Alexander Charles Thompson (on the left) and "Bill" William Henry Thompson (my father).   Photos, from my father's album, taken in England, in the early to mid 1920's.

by John Thompson G2G6 Pilot (346k points)
John, thank you for sharing two more wonderful photos from your father’s album. I thought the stocking were interesting—must have been really stylish, and your father’s dog is precious.

Alexis, the photos were in a group that showed them on an outing with the ladies, including bicycles and with their cameras.   The family had returned to England and acquired a manor, but whether my father was, at this time, visiting family or relatives is unclear (after his WWI naval career he spent 5 years navigating steamships from England to India and sometimes on to Japan).   I share your opinion of the dog.....which so reminds me of our present pet.  smiley

Unlike my mother, who labelled pictures with such things as "taken last winter"  or "all of us", her cousin Frank neatly labelled the pictures in his scrapbook. Frank was the SON of my grandmother's sister Elsie and her husband George Hunt.

by Joyce Vander Bogart G2G6 Pilot (198k points)

Oh Joyce!   The look on Franklin's face mirrors the thought. I just had. of going into our 'archive room' and labelling everything going back to the tin-plate 160 years ago.  surprise

Here is a photo of my grandfather with my Dad, the youngest of 3 boys. My grandfather, Russell H Macklem https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Macklem-77, was born in 1896 and my Dad, Thomas William Macklem https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Macklem-10, was born in 1935. I’m pretty sure my Dad was a menopause baby.

Liza.....I just had to comment.....that distinguished young gentleman, Thomas William, is an 8th cousin to 3 of my stepchildren.
Wow John! On the Macklem or Renaud side?

Liza, on the Renaud side through Julia Desjarlais-266, the mother of Clifford, my wife Kathy's 1st husband.  smiley

My maternal Great Grandfather and his five sons in a photo taken sometime between 1910 & 1919. The stiff poses were common in the days when the films were slow.
