There was a Henry Bennett who was born c 1818 at Sedgley, Staffordshire who is in the 1871 England and Wales Census. He is 53y and is a Lodger in teh registration district of Penkridge, sub-district Cannock. The parish is Norton Canes. Henry's son, Daniel 19y is there also.

I did not find parents for Henry Bennett or for William Bennett, but they could be brothers, given the closeness of their ages and birth location.

Thank you Frank for such a speedy response. The parents of Henry Bennett are proving rather elusive, I think a trip to Gornal is the only way to solve it.
William and Jane Bennett are the parents of a William Bennett who was christened on 9 Jun 1811 at Sedgley, Stafford, England.

You might want to try going to  familysearch.org  and entering the name Henry Bennett and the birth date 1818 in Staffordshire, England. There are a number of them including a James Henry Bennett. familysearch has a lot of parish information in England that a cousin of mine used to trace my Gill line back to the late 1600's in East Anglia.

Thanks again. In the 1851 Census, Henry Bennett is down as being born in Cooks Rd.,Lower Gornal,Staffs but searching via familysearch.org doesn't seem to know about him...

Hi I also research William Bennett in Staffordshire, they should come with a warning " there are a lot of Williams.

As I see this

You have several

William Bettetts

Born in Sedgley, Staffordshire at the time

09 OCT 1808 to James and Rosanna

09 JUN 1811 to William & Jane

17 MAY 1812 to John & Elizabeth

1812 to Joseph and Elizabeth Harvey (said by others to have married a Sarah – where is the evidence!)

07 JUN 1814 to William and Harriett

All of these are form Familysearch.org

One should be yours

So if we cross off some, the one that is left is yours

Okay in 1851 HO107 piece 2030 folio 18 page 28

A William mar to Mary Ann is also with his father James so the 1808 is gone

09 JUN 1811 to William & Jane

17 MAY 1812 to John & Elizabeth

1812 to Joseph and Elizabeth Harvey (said by others to have married a Sarah – where is the evidence!)

07 JUN 1814 to William and Harriett

next

1814 to William and Harriett

Could be but 3 years off your 1811 date would like to check this one more but crossed off now because three years out, and other look more likley.

now

09 JUN 1811 to William & Jane

17 MAY 1812 to John & Elizabeth

1812 to Joseph and Elizabeth Harvey (said by others to have married a Sarah – where is the evidence!)

next

1851 HO107 piece 2030 folio 377 page 14

William is unmarried son of widow Elizabeth born Sedgley also with sister Ann age 55 in 1851

We know yours was marred in 1833 so this is not yours

Also Joseph Bennett married Elizabeth Harvey at 21 DEC 1806 Sedgley,Stafford,England so It seems probable this census is the John & Elizabeth (could do more on this to get more evidence).

Now

09 JUN 1811 to William & Jane

1812 to Joseph and Elizabeth Harvey (said by others to have married a Sarah – where is the evidence!)

William and Jane do have a Henry Bennett in 31 AUG 1817, Sedgley,Stafford,England

And as we see above, so in answer to your question am I connected with Henry Bennett, your William will need to be this one.

There are two burials for William B children both born in 1816 (not a help)

1851 HO107 piece 2021 folio 661 page 42

William Bennet / Sarah sarah is born Bilston Wm is occ. Butcher

You are saying your Sarah Flavel is from Gornalwood Staffordshire

While they are both close to Sedgley one is south and one is north So I think we can say the William Wm Bennett the butcher is not yours

Also think he is alive in 1881 RG11 piece 2870 folio 146 page 1

I can see more research is needed, But I hope there are a few bits here that can help.

Thank you for such a comprehensive answer! I will need to cogtitate and digest. At this stage all I can say is that William was most likely some form of miner, like the rest of my Bennetts at that time.

Thanks,

Andrew
