The Connectors Project focuses on connecting loose branches and twigs to our Global Family Tree

Connector

Many of us are able to connect to the trunk of the Global Family Tree right when we join, as we have cousins who are already here. For others, it takes some time and effort; that's where Connectors come in!

Connectors work on open unconnected families and profiles and research to source and connect them so we're all one tree, rather than many separate ones.

Due to privacy, our project focus is primarily on profiles of non-living people.

There are many ways to get involved with our project including:

  • The Connectors Challenge, a monthly race to see how many already existing unconnected profiles you can connect to the tree in 30 days. Winners get nifty badges and bragging rights. (You can participate in the challenge and not be a Connector, and vice versa.)
  • The Lost and Found Project, which works to reconstruct GEDCOMs that were broken apart upon upload.
  • Working with Connecting Buddies who link Connectors together to best use their areas of expertise to make connections.

If you like making connections and helping others with their family research, the Connectors project is the place for you. Just answer this question below and we'll get you a badge and a welcome!

Hello, I would like to join the connectors. I also have a few other projects, but I have connected a few unconnected trees via NL or Belgium, so I think I might be of some help in that area.

Nick
Welcome, Nick.
I'm Virginia-born and still living here. I have been connecting Virginia (specifically Franklin County) profiles for a long time now. I'd love to join!

I'm working to connect my own family and I'd like to join because I am finding many connections that need made as I go in and fix errors.

My interest in finding connections has recently been piqued when Bernard Vatant contacted me concerning one of my profiles, Thies Putensen, for having reached the status of being a "Lord of the Rim" (albeit short-lived due to quickly finding closer connections). Since then, I've been working on unconnected profiles in my watchlist and would like to join the Connectors Project.

I've been participating in this month's challenge and really having fun. I'm fascinated by all the connections we make through our second cousins father-in-laws third wife etc..

I've come across a couple of profiles this month in various surnames I track that seem to be from a broken Gedcom I'd like to learn more about piecing them together.

My interests mainly lie in Scotland 1800 to 1950 but that particular period covers a lot of emigration, so I dabble in  US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand records but its wayyy daunting compared to working on home turf. So I tend to stick with what I know. But that's the beauty of a shared tree we can all work to our strengths.

I would love to get started helping with the unconnected!

I’m still learning, my family seems to come from Galacia and Canada mostly… but I figure if I help connect others I’ll be better equipped to help me connect mine!

I get a little endorphin buzz every time I make a connection. It’s better than chocolate, or a “like” on Instagram.

I'm already a connector and I didn't realize it. I spend much of my time on WikiTree now trying to link existing profiles to the big tree. I'd like to join and get my badge!

I have been working on making sense of my DNA on Ancestry and growing the tree on Wiki tree as I go, so joining this is perfect sense!

Thanks!

Hi, I would like to join, I never realised so many of the profiles I manage appear to be unconnected. I will give it a try this month.

Connections are what make Wikitree unique in the genealogy world. I’m a fan. It is all the branches and twigs you follow which end up connecting with another tree that give you a buzz.

All I’ve been doing lately is connecting all the husbands and wives in my tree to a longer line, thus connecting another family. So I’m thinking this might my niche here, I’d like to join.

I am currently working extensively on my Family name '''Swart''' I create a lot of new profiles and source them as far as possible and connect them to my Family tree.

Question?

Does this count under the connectors challenge?
by Peet Swart G2G6 Mach 2 (22.6k points)
Hello Peet,

New profiles do not count in the Connecter's challenge, but connecting profiles already on WikiTree does, and if that takes creating new profiles in between the existing one and the way you connect it to the tree, then they are part of the challenge.

Please add me! I really enjoy making connections between people and to the main tree, whether within my own family or in helping others. I am currently doing research to connect a branch I worked on to the main tree (family of a friend who has passed).

I would like to join this project.

My father's mother's mother's maiden name was Dewees.  It is thought that all of the Dewsee, Deweese, etc. and probably Rittenhouse in the New World have a common ancestor who immigrated in the late 1600s, [[Dewees-22|Gerritt Hendricks (Dewees) DeWees (abt.1640-1701)]].

I have been making these connections here and there on some of the names I am interested in. I get quite a buzz from it, especially when I can link them to my own tree.

I have already helped several people discover their brick walls, unite with never before known/met family members including finding and proving biological parents of several different people. With over 20 years of genealogy experience, this project seems extremely exciting to me.
