I have adopted a few profiles that have been orphaned that are connected to my family tree. Recently, I was contacted with questions around those profiles by other related family members. The questions call into question some sources used on this site and other genelogy sites citing the same source.
The questions regard the lineage of the MacBain clan around Aeneas (McBain-202) and Gillies Mor (McBain-214). These profiles site Gillies as Aeneas son. The primary reference is "The Peerage". I have added research notes to both these profiles that question this lineage.
A quick google search shows wikipedia having the following entry around these individuals:
"The 12th chief of Clan MacBean was Paul MacBean who due to heavy debts was forced to give up his lands in about 1685.[4] However, the lands were re-granted in the same year by Sir Hugh Campbell of Cawdor (Calder) to Paul's son William MacBean in Kinchyle.[23] William's elder son Aeneas MacBean succeeded him, followed by Aeneas's nephew Captain Donald MacBean, son of his younger brother Gillies MacBean, who became famous as a result of his exploits at Culloden (see below).[23][24][25]"
