I am the daughter of Jean Rose and William Earl Travis Van Auken. The information I have was given to me by the Methodist Minister who placed me for adoption. My parents were young, were married and divorced and gave me up for adoption. The story was that their families both were opposed to the marriage, the Rose family was Methodist and the Van Auken Catholic. Neither family could reconcile the faith of the other family. I can not find marriage or divorce records. The youngest of the Van Auken brothers believes that my mother Jean Rose was married again but had not information as to when or to whom. He thought she had another child(?). They 'heard' that she was divorced again and remarried William Van Auken. They believe she died of polio and that her brother, Thomas Gaylord Rose also had polio. I would appreciate any information that would further illuminate who my mother was. Seeing the photo of Gayl Rose was a shock to realize how great a resemblance there is between he and I.
