Do you have any Winn, Wynn, Wynne, Wind, Wynd, Winde names in your family tree?

Greg Winn and I have started a one name study
   https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Winn_Name_Study

to research these names.  Our aim is to improve our shared tree by improving the profiles, and connections between them, concentrating on the Winn and related

family names. If you are related to these family names, or if you just wish to improve Wikitree, then you are welcome to join us.

I am working on the Winde lines and Greg is working on some tangled knots he has in Durham.  As we have only just started, there is plenty of scope to work on any
sub project that takes your fancy.  We are open to suggestions as neither of us has much experience of One Name Studies.

Hi JG, thank you so much for make this call. Lets hope more folk come to join the Winn game.
As I saw when looking through the other questions, it is a Winn-Wynne situation,  Sorry about the typo on your name, hopefully now fixed,
I have a Wynn family where one descendant is frequently conflated with my ancestress.  The only reason I have this family at all is to prevent her children being attached to my great-great-grandmother as has happened on numerous online trees.
The earliest (1798) I have taken this Wynn line back is to Cornwall.  The offspring all appear to be Middlesex born.

Your study lists "Winn, Wynne, Wind, Wynd, Winde and possibly others", without naming Wynn without an e until farther down the page, so I guess my lot would fall under the "possibly others".
I don't actually have any desire to participate in a study based on the name/s, but would be happy to include the ONS sticker on profiles I manage, if that would be helpful in furthering the study.

Hi Melanie, I might have guessed you would be along.  Thanks for your helpful comments,  We have some work to do in sorting out the name variants but hopefully we will get there.

If you want to remove the Wynn family you mention from your watchlist you could put me on the trusted list and I'll keep a watch out for you,

Regarding the ONS sticker we are using it in a restricted rather than on all Winns; notables, profiles being worked on, brick walls, EKA of a line.  You are welcome to use it.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm happy to maintain the Wynn family I have currently on my watchlist.  smiley
I'm not so sure I'll be adding to them, however, unless the rabbits lead me that way, or another lot of incorrect relationships are attributed to them.

OK,  One day I'll be able to help you in return for all the help you have given me,

I have ancestors named Winne (also seen with spellings like Winnie and Winney), a similar-looking name that is believed (without much evidence) to have a different origin, namely Flanders or East Frisia. See the WikiTree surname page for Winne. I don't guess that you are interested in dealing with people named Winne in your study, but I wanted you to aware of them if you encounter them.

Best wishes in your study!

Thanks for the heads-up. I think it can be useful to include in our variant list as Winne  I believe derives from the Welsh guys and pops up with variations. As we look deeper it hopefully will help in "tree building" re movements of names and families.
BTW, the Flanders/Flemish thing seems more related to Winde (de Winde etc etc) and it's variants rather than the Welsh Winn/Winne/Wynne etc.

My surname is Wind.  All of my Wind ancestors came from the Netherlands, as far as I know.

Although the question asks if you have Winn (or variants) in your tree, we are really looking for people to participate  The ONS is open and if you have Winns in your line you are welcome to use it as a resource.  There are a lot of Winns and it will be years before we run out of things to improve (if ever).  So any help you can provide will be welcome.

We have created a [https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Winn_%28et_al%29_Problem_Profiles free space page] for anyone to post Problem Winn Profiles where other Wikitreers may be able to help.  This does duplicate the use of G2G for this purpose, but it serves as a permanent repository for problems and research,  It is open to anyone to use for Winn and related names.

Hi folks. The Winn One Name Project grew out of my frustration in seeking info, input etc for the Winn's of my family. I found they were originally Wind's. But then I quickly realized that with the naming conventions of those times and transcription or recording interpretations by parish folk, Winn, Wynn, Wind, Wain etc etc was a minefield. JG. kindly stepped in to kick off a ONS where other suffering the same issues could swap and support with input.

So, think of the ONS as a resource. You can come and go as you please, but it would be great to have your input and support as members. That's important as this mixed up bunch of "Winn's" had several demographic focii and had numerous naming issues.

As a regional family is explored, it leads to connections elsewhere that can be unexpected.

Hope to see you joining and contribution, yes even asking for help.

Regards all.

I have an "orphan" Wynn I'd like to add to the study, and participate. His name is Thomas W Wynn (born 1802 NC died before 1880 Clarke Co MS). I get DNA hits to descendants of Thomas Wynns and his wife Rebecca Ridley, who migrated from North Carolina to Tennessee in the early 1810's...they are the right age to be his parents, but some of the details don't jibe.

Certainly you are welcome to join us.  I have added you to the list of members in the project https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Winn_Name_Study

If you request to be added to the trusted list I will do so (I needed your email address to it myself) but as the one Name study is open I think you don't need this unless yu want to be notified of updates to it.

I'll have a look at the Winn you mention to see if I can add anything,

Pleased to make your acquaintance,
