I need help understanding the AGBI [closed]

Please forgive my ignorance.

I recently discovered that Ambrose Smith's father is NOT Christopher Smith (Smith-16009) but John Smith (no profile yet). So, I've been researching John Smith.

I'm looking at the American Genealogical Biographical Index (AGBI), at a specific person: Smith, John, 174?--NC--Heads Fams.NC:32,35,51,66,89,157

What do the numbers 33,35,52,66,89,157 mean? They look like page numbers to me, but page numbers to what? And what is the AGBI an index for?

I'm only vaguely familiar with the AGBI and never really gave it much thought. But now, I really need to understand what it is and whether it might have useful information regarding John Smith.

It is an index to all of the genealogical material at the Godfrey Memorial Library in Connecticut.  Here’s a link to the FamilySearch explanation (they have the index digitized) https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/American_Genealogical_Biographical_Index_-_AGBI

The citation is an abbreviation for the book or document that includes the information and page or entry numbers.

Remember that the AGBI is an index to individuals appearing in family histories and other genealogical works, and researchers are encouraged to locate and examine the material from which the database was created. If not available from your local academic or research library, most of the works referenced in the AGBI are housed at the Godfrey Memorial Library in Connecticut. A photocopy service is available. Please complete the form at the Godfrey Memorial Library Our Services site to make use of this service. For general questions please contact Godfrey Memorial Library at 134 Newfield St, Middletown, CT 06457 or via e-mail at referenceinfo@godfrey.org.

It looks like this citation refers to the 1790 U.S. Census which is digitized at FamilySearch and Ancestry.
