Hi Dennis,
A cursory glance at these two profiles shows that they are unlikely to be directly related.
- Nathaniel was born around 1601. John born around 1630. John would likely then be a son of Nathaniel, just based on approximate birth dates.
- On the profile of Nathaniel, it has a list of his children, one of which is a son named John. This John was born on 22 August 1624, in Billingsborough, England. This birth date is specific and is 6 years different from the other John.
- On Nathaniel's profile, it has a statement that 3 of his sons, "John, Joseph, and Azariah, were killed in King Philip's War of 1675/6". This statement is sourced.
- The other John shows that he died in 1682 in Oyster Bay, New York. So the death dates are very different.
- Nathaniel's son, John, inherited land and settled in Hadley, Massachusetts.
- The other John was a ship captain, who traveled between Massachusetts and New York. He was also a Quaker. His children were registered in the monthly meeting in Flushing, New York.
So, I would say, that there is a preponderance of evidence to indicate that the profile for John (Dickenson-36) is very likely not the son of Nathaniel.
However, Nathaniel also had two brothers. I have not looked into whether or not Dickenson-36 might be the son of one of them. Perhaps you could look into whether that would be a possibility.
