Volunteers and their real purpose [closed]

I would like to know what the actual agenda of some of your volunteers are. Is it to connect families or to be the highest scorer or win a prize? I contacted Lucy Lavelle to let her know I had info to offer and she did not pass on my details to the person she was helping with their research. Is that because it she connected us it might defeat her purpose of being the highest contributor? I volunteer to transcribe records and understand that it means "for no gain" besides purely helping.

I do it for the cash..............what no cash?????

Bah!

*grinz*

Betty

I do everything I do on WikiTree to help other people feel happier, and in return I feel happier for having done so.

I could expand on that in great detail but feel there is no need.  Have a nice day :)

You make me happy Robert. Thanks for all your hard work. Are you SURE there's no cash?

Betty
Full disclosure:  I recieved a free hoodie, but it was a surprise.
Hmmmm. I'd rather have the cash. :)

Betty
But you haven't seen the hoodie...
NICE!  Betty?  You haven't seen the hoodie, but I can tell you it was one of the hottest comodities at Roots Tech.  Mags

I have a T-shirt but I am a WikiTree-ologist, I guess. It's nice to help folks with something you love to do yourself.cool

I just received a free toaster today. While I don't know for sure, I believe Chris W sent it to me.
Toasters and hoodies but no cash. Hmmmmm. If you guys weren't so darn nice I'd have to abandon this place.

:)

Betty
Zipper or pullover?
Pullover.
The toaster or the hoodie??

I believe everyone here is trying to help. Everyone is a volunteer & everyone is human. People work at their own pace & people sometimes forget. There are no prizes....points are meaningless.

Just a suggestion, but you could have asked this question without naming names. Your point still would have been made.

I fully agree with every word Doug said.
Well said Doug.
Well said indeed!
Well said, I know that I have had too many balls in the air a couple of times...and a friendly reminder has always been appreciated.
True that Doug!

Shucks Ya;ll, Whats a 54 single y/o retired/disabled (on a fixed income) dispatcher who (Is burned out on gaming) has played (& payed to play) countless online MMO/MMORPG betas to do ?

There was a girl ( we will call her B) who was tired of the fast lane & tired of all the people pulling & pushing her all around. Soz she set a brick on the ground in front of her to stop being pushed & pulled. She soon found she needed more bricks & build a waist high wall all around herself. She again found that people were still pulling & pushing. Therefore she built high walls, so high she almost blocked out the sun. After many years...

a Yellow Flower floated down to where she was. She remembered the sunlight & all the plants & animals, forests & trees rivers & lakes. She then heard someone scratching at her wall. She decided to scratch also. Then she heard louder scratching & chipping, so she scratched & chipped. All at once a hand broke through, they grasped each others hand. B decided that the hand was warm, kind, nice & that the person (we will call her D) had unconditional regard for her. B & D became best friends. Where you saw D you also saw B. After many moons tightly together D told B that she had to go & that she had some business to attend to and did not know if she could return.

B was extremely upset to say the least. B asked D " What should I then do? " D said... " Throw Yellow Flowers". :) P.S. People used to tell me that I should write a book. I am a book. I am a part of other peoples book weather we are related/cousins or not. I am here to "Write My Book" If you don't believe me just look at my biography that I wrote in a few hours yesterday. Thank You wikitree, for allowing me to write my book & throw yellow flowers :)

How do you know that she did not pass on the information and the other person just has not used it yet.  When I get third party information I do not act on it until I can verify it for myself.  I do not want to spread unverified "facts" like they do on some other websites.

The real purpose of Volunteering on WikiTree is for pure simple unadulterated enjoyment.  Mags

It is about serving the greater good without expecting anything in return. When you do get recognition from other members, that is the best reward!

At an early age I was very interested in the stories of my ancestors - Dad's stories about his grandparents coming over from Ireland, Grandma B's stories of growing up in rural Connecticut - and I always wanted to know "who was her mother". So, sharing these stories motivates me. I also like the treasure hunt aspect. I'm not really in a point competition, but I like having a record that I've done something each day of my retirement - a few WikiTree points. (never ending house work is a drag) The best part is the thank-you feed growing in numbers.

Have you tried to discuss the issue with them?  How do you know they didn't pass the information, did you ask the person it was meant for?  Why didn't you give them the information directly?  Was it sourced or a story you heard when you were 6 from your grandmother that she heard about easedropping on here parents talking?

Why even post this, it's not a question, it's a complaint about one person.  There are other ways to solve this.  If only this person upset you why are you generalizing about all of Wikitree except for yourself?  Did you feel the need to let everyone know that you are one of the righteous few here while the rest of us are here to collect stars on our profile page?
