Hello WikiTreers!

Please join us for the current WikiTree Challenge. For each challenge, we partner with another group in the worldwide genealogy community. Together we research seven degrees of connections for seven starting people chosen by our partner.

This week, our partner was the Society of One-Place Studies (OPS). They support and promote studies and their owners, and educate the public about the benefits of running One-Place Studies.

Our week began Thursday, February 2, at noon EST (5pm UTC) and ended February 9, at noon EST. You didn't need any particular skills to participate, everyone was welcome to join us. If you did happen to have any experience with records for Canada, England, or the United States, then your experience was especially valuable for this one.

We again showed our friends what genealogy collaboration can accomplish!

Check out the Resource Space page for more details and resources. You can see who is participating so far on the tracking sheet. Watch for the Highlights post to see what all we discovered!

closed with the note: Thank you for participating! See you for the next challenge.

Wikipedia on Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier , no -la- in there.  I know, nitpicking, but I like accuracy.  wink  Expanded the marriage data on her parents already, shows her mother had a cousin present at the wedding.  Also expanded data on her own marriage.

Not sure if this is too distant as I'm new here but I was able to connect to the main tree through Rose's brother, Michael Holton  > His wife, Ellen Mary Lannon, > her sister, Phoebe Ann Lannon, > her husband, Thomas Thompson, his mother, Catherine Guilfoyle, her parents were both already in the main tree, William Gilfoyle & Margaret Griffin.

looks good, she is also connected through her nephew Francis Squibb.
That's great Margaret! Nice work on the connection!
I have added two generations to her daughter-in-law who was the wife of her son Thomas Patrick Cassin.
Thanks Liza!!

Have attached Charles Bullock to the global tree through his eldest son's wife
Great Tracey!! Congratulations and thank you!
He's connected to the global tree in another direction too now. His wife's grandfather is Bazely-1. (I'm not officially participating in the challenge but I'm on the Oxfordshire team and do a bit of connecting)
That's great Helen!! We always appreciate the help!
I have added Research Notes for Richard Simon's likely parents to his profile. I just need to add the parents. Father added.
WooHoo Hilary!! Nice work!!

Connection made to the World Tree through her brother Richard Monksfield and his previously connected son George Monksfield! Sarah is now up to 64 connections!

Yay Steven!! Nice work!
I've been working on the Meek/Monksfield family.  Does it help if I do a GEDCOM of the tree on Ancestry and bring that over?  I have parents for Sarah Stanley.
Thanks Lorri! You can add them however you are the most comfortable with.

We'll get him connected, I swear.
Hi! I curate Black Wide Awake and have posted lots re Samuel H Vick. A top: his father’s father is believed to have been Josiah Vick, a wealthy slave owner.
he will show as connected tomorrow.
Black Wide Awake is AMAZING! We'd love to have you collaborate with us in the US Black Heritage Project!
Thank you! I’ll sign up for (much-needed) training, then will definitely sign up to collaborate!
Don't worry, Lisa, we're nice! :)
We still need to source and prove the connection at the point where it's currently connected to the tree, but it does look very promising.
It'll likely require DNA, which will be difficult, as SH Vick has no known Y-descendants. (He had brothers, but they had few children, and I'm not in contact with any of them.) Maybe autosomal matching will establish a link though.
Let me know if you guys get a connection proven!

i forget who was checking my work, they felt comfortable with my research notes on this profile https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hackett-2528

but i just found a much closer connection
this is backwards but was easier to copy and paste then retype

Thanks for all of your work on these lines, S!! Congratulations on the connection!
Sadie E Foster Vick's parents have been identified as Joseph Foster and Sarah (Patterson) Foster, from the marriage record of her brother Ernest (who is mentioned in her obituary and is living with her in at least one census record).

He is connected via son-in-law William McMillan-7238. The bounty could go to me or maybe to Carol-Lynn Harke based on the merge of George's daughter Mary. (Or we could split it! :) )
Was William already connected to the global tree Matthew? If so, I can split it.
Yes, I first created William as a child of his (connected) parents, then the marriage was added.

Moving this here:

Was able to Connect George Wallace (1826-1905)through His Son George Wallace Jr. (abt.1857-) Son's Frederick Western Wallace (1885-)'s Daughter Zella Marion (Wallace) Davidson (1910-abt.1979) who already existed on the tree but was orphaned so I adopted her and her husband Philip Cheyne Davidson (1902-1979) and added a few new sources. His parents were already on the tree and his father's profile John Cheyne Davidson Archdeacon (1861-1931) is quite extensive  He served in WW1 as a chaplain at the  the 3rd Canadian Stationary Hospital. He was orphaned as well, I would love to see somebody adopt him as the information about him could be developed I'm sure into quite a biography which I unfortunately do not have the time to do right now.

I've added the connection via John Powles Cheyne, the brother of the grandmother Susanna Ferrar Cheyne. He was a Royal Navy person and notable for being part of the expeditions to find Franklin's ship which was lost in the search for the Northwest Passage.  He also devised a plan to reach the north Pole by balloon. 17 degrees from Mindy via the Gardners, Notleys and Minsons.
How interesting Joe. Thanks!!
Have added the parents of Robert Gordon based on the information in the census (born in St Fergus). Thank you Linda for the extra set of eyes and the help with citation creation.
Way to go Rosalie! And thank you Linda for your help.
just a fyi, George Wallace is only 11 degrees from Edwin Boyd  (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Boyd-13222) who was in the first Ontario challenge, as I worked on the same profiles for Boyd as I did for Wallace.
Very cool S!
