His mother, Alice Lambert 1554-1620 appears to have a family tree that links to English nobility

The only formal category of Gateway Ancestors that I know of on WikiTree is Gateway Ancestors recognised by the Magna Carta Project. They are people for whom there is a firm direct line of descent from a Magna Carta Surety Baron, and who emigrated to America before 1700. Douglas Richardson, the main source for establishing who is a Gateway Ancestor for the Project, does not list Walter Haynes. So, before considering Walter as a possible Gateway Ancestor for the project, it would be necessary for someone to establish firmly, from primary sources, that he was descended from a Surety Baron, or from someone in a line of descent already recognised by the Project.

On a quick look, Walter appears not to be shown currently on WikiTree as descended from any Surety Baron. But I may have missed something.

The term "Gateway Ancestor" is used more widely in some genealogical circles, often to mean someone with notable ancestors who emigrated to America before 1700.

It may be worth adding that some of Walter's ancestry as shown on WikiTree is not well-sourced and may well be questionable.
This is what I'm wondering, because his mother, Alice Lambert appears to have a family tree that runs back to William d'Aubeney (1173-1221). I have been under the assumption, because of its requirement of documentation, that WikiTree was more reliable than Ancestry.com and the others, especially with WikiTree's resistance to naming James Cudworth as a Gateway Ancestor, because it can not decide which two were the parents of his mother, Mary Machell, Matthew Machell & Mary Lewkner or John Machell & Ursula Hynde.
Here is what I see on WikiTree. Are there errors in this lineage?

Alice Lambert, daughter of Katherine Packington, d/o Humphrey Pakington, son of Ellenor Washbourne, d/o Thomas Washbourne, son of Elizabeth Kniveton, d/o Elizabeth Bagot, d/o Beatrice Mallory, d/o Alice Driby, d/o John Driby, s/o Joan Tattershall, d/o Robert Tattershall, s/o Maud Aubigny, d/o William d'Aubeney

Thanks. William Daubeney, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Aubigny-7, was not a Surety Baron. He was an "Illustrious Man", one of the advisers of King John at the time of the Magna Carta. His descendants therefore don't count as Gateways for the purposes of the Magna Carta Project.

Why do we think Alice (Lambert) Haynes is the daughter of John Lambert and Katherine Packington?

Basically, this line needs to be broken here. There has never been (to my knowledge) any published connection of John Lambert of London to Alice (Lambert) Haynes. The will of John Lambert mentions "my daughters" but does not name them. The Visitations of Worcestershire show the marriage John Lambert and Katherine Packington, but does not carry down to show any children.

I will be breaking the line here unless there is some evidence to even suggest Alice Lambert could be the daughter of John Lambert and Katherine Packington.

Thank you Joe. This answers my initial question about the validity of the ancestral lineages given by WikiTree. Thank you for breaking the line and clearing the confusion.
