Hi everyone, I'm looking for more information about ancestor. He immigrated to the USA from England in 1829. At the time of his immigration he was 41 and the ship manifest of the Edward Roberts ship showed him aboard (according to the US immigration records). The ship ported in Ellis Island, New York City, NY. At that time, he moved to early Colonial Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At that time the colony there wasn't even 100 years old yet. His occupation on the passenger list was 3 words long, and otherwise illegible.

He married Mary Amelia Heyliger and they had many children. It is possible that he might have fathered two other children with two other different women. My research could be wrong though. I cannot find the marriage record or date of marriage. It's possible they were married in England

He was born in Kent, England and died 30 Oct 1852 and was buried in Pennsylvania, USA.

I'm looking for any information and records about his parents. I think they were called William and Mary Coffee/Coffey/Coffea/Coffe/Coffer/Caughie.

I don't know why there is a jump from Collins surnames to Coffee. Maybe Charles Collins was adopted as a child? The surnames Collins and Coffee might have roots in Ireland. I do not know the ethnicity of this relative. If you have images or long comments please send to onefreebird1@gmail.com.

Thank you.

There never was a surname change. That was a misreading of the census info.

Coffer ran a boarding house and Collins were unrelated tenants.

Later Passmore also ran a boarding house.

They were probably just trying to make exta money.

I explained this before in a message at ...
