I've always had trouble navigating this site. I can never find a link to the projects from the main page. And I can't figure out how go leave a group. Can anyone help?

Jim told you about going to the drop-down menu 'Find' and scroll down until you get to 'Projects.

When you see the list of Projects, go to the one you want and click on its title (ie Medieval, One Name Studies etc).  The title in the list of Projects is a link to the Project's main page.

Thanks Ros. That's very helpful! I'd never realised. Perhaps it's obvious—I'm not sure :-)

Hi Mel. For your first question about the list of official projects, use the Find menu at the top right corner of most pages, and select Projects. The direct link is

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Projects

You can also see at least some projects you are in from your badges, available by selecting Badges from the My WikiTree menu.

If you are a project member, many projects will place a comment on your profile every so often, e.g. 6 or 12 months, asking you to confirm continued participation. One way to leave is to reply in the negative then, or even just not reply at all.

Or send a message to the project e-mail.

How would you find out what the project email address is? As far as I can see, they're not listed on

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Projects

Go to the project page for the one you want to leave and contact the project leader(s).

Ok :-) Sorry to be difficult, but how would you find the project page? In general, they are not listed on Help:Projects either. Yes they are, as titles. See Ros's answer.

My point is not that this is impossible, but that it's harder than it needs to be. Help:Projects could point directly to the main space page for each project. For the most part it doesn't. In some cases there's a G2G link that gets you there in two steps. Sometimes there isn't even that.

Edited to add: Though Peggy your idea does help. The project leaders are listed on Help:Projects, so you could contact one of them from there, using profile comment or private message.

You can find the Project page for any Project of which you are a member by clicking the badge on your badges list, then clicking the link at the top of the list of badge holders.
For example, if I click my Military_and_War badge, I get taken to the page where all those with that badge are listed.  But even before the first of the names is the badge, and this line:

Active participant in the Military and War Project or one of its sub-projects.

.

Edited to add clarity.

Thanks Melanie. There would be more steps for projects of which you are not a member, though.

But if I am not a member of a Project, why would I wish to leave it?

True. But finding project pages if you're not a member is also a hurdle. I think Tommy's answer and his G2G Roundup page give the best solution for that so far.

But my comment answers the actual question - "How do I leave a project?"

Jim, you wrote: "Help:Projects could point directly to the main space page for each project. For the most part it doesn't."

Where are you seeing lack of a link to a project page from Help:Projects? I click on the name of the project in the table of contents; it takes me to a section on the same page, but the HEADER for that section is hyperlinked to the project's home page.

Right Jillaine. Ros pointed that out in the answer I've starred, and I edited a comment above to acknowledge it as well.

This doesn't immediately solve Mel's original question. The project pages in general do not say how to withdraw, give the project email address, or allow a private message. But as Peggy said, once you know who the Leaders are, you can contact one of them saying you'd like to leave.

Hi Mel,

This G2G page should help you find the projects and a whole lot more:

To leave a project or group, I suggest you go to the project page where you signed up for the project/group and post another answer stating that you would like to leave the project/group.

Thanks Tommy! It's great that you've got direct links to the main pages of all the projects there, something which is lacking on Help:Projects.
