I am trying to find the correct parentage of John Hay born c 1661 in Edinburgh Scotland. He married Grizell Cook in 1695. I even have one of Scotland's top genealogists on the case but still baffling. John was Factor and ballie to the Earl of Wemyss, George MacKenzie. He died 1710, age 49, I have his will. his father is queried as Dr/Sir David Hay M.D and Agnes Fleming. Dr David Hay died 1699, his wife Agnes 1693 both were buried at Greyfriars, Edinburgh. They had 7 out of 12 children die young of which John could potentially be one. In David's wiil/testament dative & retour of 1699 only 2 female children are mentioned and inherit that is Helen and Elizabeth.
I am still sure David is the Dad as a David Hay was present at one of his children's births and just feels right. I have looked at many wills from this period and not all children of parents even if still alive are always mentioned unless they inherit.
