Why doesn’t my mtDNA information get added to my matrilineal ancestors?

I put my mtDNA haplogroup where I thought I was supposed to but that doesn’t seem to change the statements on my mother, maternal grandmother and so on to the effect that ‘However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.’ How do we correct that?

The following will automatically associate your mtDNA haplogroup reported by 23andMe with your direct maternal line in WikiTree.  Login to WikiTree and go to your DNA Tests page at

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:DNATests

and select that you took an Other mtDNA test.  Enter your Mitochondrial chromosome haplogroup as reported by 23andMe.  In the free space field enter that you tested with 23andMe and the approximate date you tested.  Then at the bottom click on the ADD TEST FOR [your name] button.  Doing so will automatically associate your mitochondrial DNA haplogroup with your direct maternal line ancestry.

Peter, thank you for taking the time to respond. I have entered my test results on that page in the section designated for 23andMe test results. Nevertheless, I tried following your directions and the interface responded that user Hale-11473 (that’s me) has already entered test results.
I think you missed the subtle point in Peter's answer....you need to add "another test", and indicate it is a MTDNA.
“Other mtDNA test.”
Peter and Robin, thank you for the continuing help. I basically repeated the steps I followed earlier (each time with Peter’s directions open). This time I added nothing in the comment field and the interface appeared to accept the ‘new’ information. Now I will wait to see if my mtDNA haplogroup begins to propagate up my matrilineal line. Tick tick tick Janet <smile>
I just looked and the DNA appropriate information follows the maternal lineage.

Your mother Smith-134190, her mother Jeffries-1304, her mother Bridges-5720, etc.....
THANK YOU PETER, et al…you answered questions I was about to ask. Yay!!

How long ago did you add the Haplogroup to your test information? Sometimes it takes about 24 hours to populate to your ancestors.

Virginia, thank you for your response. I added the test information at least 7 days ago.
I have entered it several times with the same results everytime. I MUST be doing something wrong. The last time I did it again was early February, 2024

23 and Me and Ancestry don’t do mtDNA tests. They do autosomal tests so the statements were correct. The haplogroup you were given is a “big picture” type that could be refined in more detail if you take a mtDNA test, which is not the same as an autosomal test.
