Hello John,

Do you match about 90% (or more) of your markers with anyone in the Hopkins Surname DNA Project at

https://www.familytreedna.com/public/HopkinsDNA/default.aspx?section=yresults ?

If so, then enourage them to add their Hopkins ancestry to WikiTree.

If not, I recommend you encourage a very distant Hopkins cousin (male with the Hopkins surname) to take a  Y-DNA37 or Y-DNA25 test.

Sincerely, Peter

Have you e-mailed the Group Administrators, using the 'Contact Group Administrator' link to ask for help? Have you tried e-mailing your close matches from your yDNA Matches page to see if they will work with you to figure out your common ancestor?

Is your kit in the table? I looked at the page with the table, but I didn't see your kit #. It doesn't look like you're in the project.
Hello Michael,

Please go to your Y-DNA matches page at Family Tree DNA and at the bottom click on the Upload to YSearch button.  Fill out the YSearch information and then enter your YSearch ID on your DNA Tests page in WikiTree.

If you get an error message at YSearch after saving there then don't try to upload to YSearch again.  Instead see:

http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/102617/is-ysearch-web-site-dead
One way to make a marker comparison is if two or more males belong to the same direct paternal line in WikiTree and are in YSearch.  See:

http://www.wikitree.com/treewidget/Roberts-7085/899

Under Peter Roberts "check this box ..." and under Anonymous Roberts "check this box..." then click on the link to compare their markers.

on my ftDNA page I can see:

PROJECTS

Project Website
Hopkins www.familytreedna.com/public/Hopkinsdna Leave Project
I haven;t emailed anyone yet- I assumed it was dead if the website is toast. I'll try that.

As for another YDNA relative with a common ancestor, I have been talking to one who shares the same 5th GGG...f and he shows up as 0 - so we have confirmed the same 8th GF that we have been researching.

I also have a 3rd cousin once removed and she cannot take the Y obiously.

But good idea about the email.

I cannot figure out why my kit doesn't show up on the chart\table.
I do not see my relative (that I mentioned earlier) on the table either although he is actively involved in much on the site it appears. I will have to ask him.

As for ysearch- I filled it in 2x's and got the server error. I will look into this link and see what it can do.

Wow- got one match @ 0 distance on Ysearch :

  XA6GS   13131212-8/728 Germany&Alps, United Kingdom  R1b1a2*  Family Tree DNA  8 0
Pretty cool- it calls out the sub Haplogroup , which I thought was the right one anyway! Thanks!

Now, if I could only get ySearch to upload my GEDcom - I get a 500 server error with it just like the original problem...
YSearch no longer accepts GEDCOMs.  In your YSearch note field provide a link to your ancestry in WikiTree.
Thank you,

Done and I appreciate the help- I think I have leaned almost as much today (and confirmed) as I have for the last 3 years...

Hi John, You've attached your question to Ester Hopkins. Is Ester a man or a woman? If you click 'edit' on Ester's profile you can indicate the correct gender. If Ester is a male, your yDNA information should show up on the profile within 24 hours. You've asked how to contact someone. Does that person have a profile on WikiTree? If yes, you can enter a 'Public Comment' on the right side of that person's WikiTree profile. Or you can click on 'send private message' in the 'collaboration' area above the 'Public Comment' box. If you still haven't heard back from the person you're trying to contact, you can click on the link to the person's # of contributions, just below the person's biography. Looking at that will let you know if the person has been active recently on WikiTree.
