G2G: Can I make specific info private?

Question

Added 1st cousin maternal side connection unknown. They are deceased, but some info I feel should be confidential[prison record] Conflict this may be material info but is it fair to living descendents to make this public? Is there a way to make some info accessible for family but hidden to general public?

I think someone commented I could leave the sensitive content out. It is public info and history and I think the fathers being in jail somewhat explains two of the boys also getting in trouble plus large family many mouths to feed but don't want to upset grandchildren.. Also, I did list children from census as that is important info but don't want to expose their information. guess I will put highest privacy on it and hope that is good.

Sherry, I fully understand your concern and this is something WikiTree is very concerned about allowing members to protect sensitive information from public view.

You can set the privacy level of the profile as private and choose family tree to be public or not, while keeping biography private.

The private portions are only accessible by someone on a profile's trusted list, so in order to make it accessible to your family members, they would need to join WikiTree so that you can add them to the trusted list.

For the privacy levels I see it as three simple rules

1. Still alive = Unlisted . Note if you don't enter a death date of someone born less than 100 years ago compared to current date it will also go unlisted even if they have died.
2. Died within 100 years  =   Any privacy level chosen by PM  . This excludes Unlisted to my knowledge.
3. Died over 100 years ago  =  Open level privacy  .  

Of course if family members are on the trusted list for a profile they will see everything.
