Alphonse and Bertha Guillet were from Alsace Lorraine region of France. They married there and had a vineyard. They came to la by ship as wine merchants after the Germans took their vineyard. Their oldest son, Alphonse Guillet (Henri) was born on the journey on board the ship. He and his wife Lillian Hardy had many children. One child was my grandfather Henri Marcel Guillet. My mother, Gloria Guillet who married John L Fulbright Sr. (Family also from Alsace Lorraine but German) would tell me of her great grandfather who was postmaster riding out in his big black steed. He spoke only French at home and would hold her on his lap and sing Opera to her. She said he was 101 when he died. I have pictures and more memories that are jumbled probably in my mind if anyone is interested. For instance, his wife last name Hardy, was a doctor/healer and would ride out with the Indians (native Americans) in the night, alone, to their camp to treat an injury and was trusted and protected. I also find it fascinating that both my mother’s family Guillet and my father’s family Fulbright (Volbrecht) are from the same tiny province in France on the German border, Alsace Lorraine. I noticed my line of descendants was missing and wanted to help if possible. My uncle, a Guillet,( son of Henri Marcel Guillet who died at 100 in Beaumont, Texas) is alive and still practicing medicine in his 80’s. Would it help if I took a DNA test? I would love to visit Alphonse’s ( Alfonse ?) grave. Thank you for posting that!
