correcting details in profile

Question

I'm looking at unsourced profiles with a view to adding sources.

This profile has William Ireland and Katherine Dods marrying in 1804 in Peeblesshire, Scotland. I have a source for this and can easily add it. However the child in the profile, and their subsequent descendants,  is not a child of this particular marriage. There may well have been a different William Ireland and Katherine Dods  who had a daughter Sarah in USA but they were not the Peeblesshire couple.

Should I proceed to give details on the Peeblesshire people. If so, what do I do with the daughter Sarah.

Should I proceed on the basis of Sarah and subsequent descendants are correct and remove the reference to the Peeblesshire marriage

How do you know that there were not multiple couples with same names?  Current Challenge that is wrapping up I was helping find George Wallace sources for parentage.  I found at least 3 or 4 couples of George and wife Margaret, with multiple born in the same place in Scotland, but with concurrent census with different children in different locations later in life, that proved there were multiple.  

With Scotland, the earlier records are church records, so if they were not attendees of those records, then there are no records for baptism, marriage, etc.

Having looked at the changes log for the profile it would seem the current PM added the wife.  Without knowing who the profile is intended to represent, I would suggest you add the possible source to a research notes section and let them decide if it applies or not.  In the meantime  hopefully they see this post and can collaborate with you on this.
