Help finding place of origin in Sweden

Howdy folks,

Hoping I might be able to get some assistance finding an individual's place of origin in Sweden. Person in question was named Charles August Johnson (presumably originally Carl August John/Jon/Johansson), & was born in Sweden, hopefully on 24 Oct 1867 (as per his death certificate). The US Census suggests he immigrated around 1890, & in 1900 he married Bertha Maria Botelson in Minneapolis, MN, before relocating to Multnomah County, Oregon.

I know Bertha's family to be from Havdhem Parish in Gotland, but have yet to find any evidence of Carl's location of origin (& a quick scan of Havdhem doesn't find any obvious matches). Hoping a search on ArkivDigital by someone with access, or other research may be able to find more info.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Hi,

There is one Carl August Johansson/Johnsson born oct 22 1867 in Dalhem, Gärdserum parish in Kalmar län. But its noted in Gärdserum a:3 p 15 that he migrated to America in 1908 so probably not him.

The guy from Dalhem came back to Sweden and got married here. None of the other namesakes born in October 1867 seem to fit (they stayed in Sweden).

His grave marker says he was born in 1866 and there's a Karl August Johannesson, born 24 Oct 1866 in Hånger, who emigrated 15 October 1891:

Thank you very much, Jan & Eva! The fellow from Hånger seems promising- I'll have to do a little more work to see if I can confirm for certain that it's him, but it's an excellent lead!
The error type of "correct day and month but one year off" is fairly common in emigrants.
