Hi, whilst i am editing a profile i end up in a situation that the edit window cannot be saved and closed without further instructions/warnings. I have had this now several times. And sometimes i do not want to delete the draft. Do i do something wrong? The window tabs show that 2 windows are open on the same profile

Do you have the WikiTree Browser Extension (WBE) installed? If so, do you have the latest version of WBE? There was an earlier version where the BioCheck feature was interfering with save. If that is the case, update to the latest extension or disable the BioCheck feature.

have installed the extension. No change. This smells like a coding problem. I can reproduce it as follows:

1. start a new profile by entering all relevant data and push 'create new profile'.

2 this brings you to the top of the just created profile (form still open with store options at the bottom). Store options however do not work.

3. Top menu says ' Edit data below or show new profile' Edit dat below works but cannot be stored (see point 2). Show option works and also closes the 'uncommitted draft

Solution: omit step 2 and go directly to show new profile.
What browser are you using?

Are you using the beta add person? (It sounds as you are.)

What version of the extension do you have installed?

There was a problem with the BioCheck feature 3 months ago but that has been fixed. Do you have the latest browser extension? Have you tried with the BioCheck feature disabled?
Peter, a basic question or two, I know, but I have had the issue where a profile won't save.
Did you enter a reason for the edit?
If yes to the above, have you tried making a small edit, then adding a different edit reason, and then attempting to save?
Are you typing in the edit reason, or using your browser's autofill?  Or are you using the preset basic reasons "radio buttons"?
I did not enter a reason for the edit other then through the basic edit reasons radio buttons.

I have tried to make a small edit and then store (with a radio reason) . NoGo, Not willing to store.

But i feel common users should never end up in this engineers delight situation
Kay,

Browser is google chrome up to date with the extension as advised installed yesterday

Beta 'add person' no idea. Where can i find that? I am a common user, not a specialist.

Also where can i disable the biocheck feature? It seems to work because i get messages that i have ignored biochecked profiles
Peter: Yes, you're right. Common users should not be bothered with this kind of problem. I'm sorry about this.  I think this is because of recent changes made to the site which caused errors in the WBE.  The WBE code has been updated and the WBE update will be with you very soon.
Peter,

I haven't been able to recreate this, but its always difficult to test add a person without adding a person.

Here is something you can try. In Chrome in the upper right click on the 3 vertical dots, then click Settings. Then on the left window, click Extensions. You will see WikiTree Browser Extension 1.2.7.  There is a slider on that window that can turn off the extension completely. Or, to disable just one feature, click on Details then click on Extension Options. On that page you will see each of the features with a slider that can be used to enable/disable the feature.

The Beta test for adding profiles was announced in G2G (https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1528221/have-you-tried-the-new-system-for-creating-profiles-version). The turn this on/off, go to the My WikiTree menu at the top of the screen, and pick Settings. These are the settings for your profile; you will find the beta test under the Miscellaneous Settings at the bottom of the screen.
Kay, I don't know how comfortable you are with English records, but if you "need" a profile to test this on you could try adding to https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/White-52703
I'd get there eventually but am currently researching elsewhere.
Mel,

Thanks, not really comfortable there. My gg grandmother's sister did not have a profile, although she was on my list to add. She had 10 children, according to the county history. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Reed-32226 So I have added her and two of her children; may try some other variants to see if I can recreate the problem.
Kay,

The WBE is the most recent. I leave it on. I now know how to avoid the issue. Stll, my recommendation stands: at the end of the creaton of a new profile, leave the edit mode and show the newly created profile. Just keep it simple.
