G2G: Thomas Commeraw, Black 19th century Potter from a Guardian article

I came across an article in The Guardian regarding Thomas Commeraw, who had been assumed to be a white man of French descent (Commereau), but who was later discovered to be a Freed Black man (freed when he was about 7 years old).  The story was very interesting to me so I checked WT to see if a tree had been started for him.  I didn't find anything, so I've spent the day trying to fill in a tree for him.  I have also found him on Wikipedia and now wonder if he should be considered a Notable or be included in a Project of some sort.

The Guardian article mentions that they've found a living (many) greats grandson in Florida.  I've been trying to find as many descendants that I can for him, as well as link him to the global tree.

If he was born enslaved, he definitely falls under the US Black Heritage Project. I'll add him to our list and someone from the team will reach out to you. Thanks for adding the descendants!

Great!  I'm finding it very interesting!  I'm hoping that some of his pottery can be shown on his page, if there's any photo that would fall under fair use.

There are several public domain images on Wikimedia Commons. See this link.

Thank you, Jim!
