Just noticed we passed 300,000 Smiths profiles on Wikitree a couple of days ago:

Can any other surname compete?

Oooh those darn Smith's! Talk about research hardship at times!

My Smith lot are from Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England, and are frequently confused with a similar Smith family from Perth in Scotland.
I, too, am a Smith whose brick-wall Smith came from Virginia to Indiana in the early 1800s. I'll just go out on a limb and say that we're clearly cousins. :-)
Yes, in my search for breaking a brick wall, you have not escaped the wrath of the 'relationship to me' check!
Have you done a Y-DNA test?
Negative, I really need to, and plan to do just that. Since not much is known factually about my Smith ancestors, and given that I have no known relatives that would know, seems like the best course of action. Even my mother knows very little beyond my ggSmith because that family history was lost when my paternal grandmother passed.
My Dad tested his, and there are a couple of matches to other lines that go to early Virginia. Haven't made a definite connection to them yet, but we at least seem to know that he came from around Rockbridge/Botetourt/Abermarle County area. It does feel a lot better to have some solid connection to Virginia Smith lines!

That's why I create so many duplicate files. After reading that, I guess that can be taken two ways.

I have about 4 or 5 Smith lines scattered about in my tree - all from the Southern states. A couple of them have been solved but there is one I haven't even bothered to tackle as the information is just too sparse.

I just created the 300,965th Smith profile. That means that WikiTree is creating about 1000 Smith profiles about every two weeks.
