Webpage source no longer active-how to reference?

A cousin posted a story about one of our ancestors to his profile years ago. Not sure if she received the author's permission. Having edited this (rather messy) profile last week, I just read the comments on Dewey-54 regarding WT's policy on plagiarism. Tried to find the website/blog, where the story originated, to correct profile and post a link, but the page has apparently been taken down. Did a Google search for the story to no avail. What should I do to be in compliance?

Have you tried using the Wayback Machine to see if the original site still exists there?
Thanks, Kathie. I found something that may be it, but am not sure how to tell, and what to do with it.

Assuming you cannot find the old source, I would try to find new sources for each of the facts in the article. You can then rewrite it to meet the criteria from the new source.

Thanks, Jimmy. It may take a while - some is based in fact, but part may just be family legend! Good story though. I saved a hard copy, so maybe I'd better just delete and link to the stuff I know is true. The relative who posted the story was elderly and possibly unaware of the plagiarism caveat.
