German distant cousin — mystery

Hello,

This is not a close relative, but I am curious.  Several years ago, I found at volksbund.de that he went missing in the USSR in 1943  But then recently, I found someone by the same name living in Nürnberg in 1949.

Did he go missing, and then make his way back to Germany by 1949? Or did he have a son by the same name? The only thing I can say for certain is that there weren’t many people named Däweritz in Nürnberg, so I don’t think this is a coincidence.

Any thoughts on how I might look more into this? I’ve tried Archion, and come up empty so far.

Thanks for any help or tips!

You might try contacting the German Red Cross. See this article: https://www.aa.com.tr/en/europe/german-red-cross-under-time-pressure-to-find-world-war-ii-missing/1960713#

Unfortunately there is no link, but I’m sure the German Red Cross is readily findable on the internet.

This is a link for the Search Service (DRK-Suchdienst) with contact information (the page is in English). https://www.drk-suchdienst.de/en/how-we-help/tracing/second-world-war/#c56869
