Do you know where Amerika is"

Maybe I shouldn't post this here, but I was surprised when looking at one of my profiles to see this as a location listed for [[Bödecker-51|Carl Heinrich Bödecker (1830-)]].

And of course his emigration was to of all places America.

Lol!!

When I do a search for Amerika on my favourite Swedish map I get 100 hits for places in Sweden with that name. I think mostly they are smaller than a village, more like hamlets or small clusters of buildings.

I was going to ask if you knew when it was named or if it was named for the Americas, and you have it right on the profile:

As a small village of 79 residents (2010), it is known merely for its name, the German word for America, which was given to it in the 19th century.

In the Netherlands we also have a town called Amerika. It started it's existance as a place to go to instead of emigrating. Where farmers still could buy land
