I'm confused - Merging [closed]

Question

I am relatively new to WikiTree (2 months) but have completed two or three successful merges. Last night I merged Schluter-467 and Schluter-461 and got the confirmation it was completed.

This morning when I did a name search both 461 and 467 appeared in the results. Is this normal? Clicking on either only open up the merged 461. Just wondering if this is normal and I have not noticed it before or if there is a bug in the search system that should be reported.

That is weird. There is an occasional bug where a ghost of a merged away profile will hang on where it should not, so this may be a variation of that.  I imagine it will disappear from the list eventually.

Melanie, the 467 profile shows up on lists for the name and when I did a search for duplicate on 461, the merged away profile comes up in the results.  When I asked to compare the profiles it said I needed to reverse the order, but then could not continue to compare them. 467 should not be coming up on lists as though it still exists.

Maybe the lists take time to update. Perhaps if you wait 24 hours it will no longer show up.

I believe that Jim Richardson is correct. I often see search results lists that include profiles that were merged away within the last day or so.

Thanks everyone, what concerned me was I had never seen that before and I have a lot of cleaning up to do wasn't sure if they were still two profile even though they both bring up the same number. Oh well back to work feeling a bit more confident now. Thanks again !

Yes if I understand your question. Since you merged one profile into the other, only the final merged profile will appear. (I just checked and Schluter-461 is the final profile.) Schluter-467 was merged into Schluter-461. Hope this helps!
