G2G: Ghost profile following merge

Two profiles for this person have been merged but both old profile names/links appear on her profile, a bug?

[[Soady-28|Florence May (Soady) Wilton (1881-1968)]]

I note that this problem has been cropping up since at least 2017

Gary it looks like the post merge clean-up step hasn't been done yet.

What have I missed that causes this problem?

I have edited the profile the same way I do after other merges but have only seen a ghost post merge once before.

If the problem you mean is the ghost - nobody knows why it sometimes happens, and other times (majority) it does not.

I just came across the same problem the other day.  I figured out how to fix it, and have done that now to this profile for you.

Initially, using the Changes Log on Soady-28, I verified that Wilton-1266 was merged into Soady-28, but the ghost profile of Wilton-1266 was still showing as a child of both parents, as well as the merged Soady-28 profile. I went into the mother and the father's profiles, selected the Add / Remove child at the bottom of the children list, scroll to the bottom of that page, selected the Wilton-1266 profile, 'double / triple checked' that was the correct one to be removed, and 'then' select Remove Child.  I had to do it on both parent's profiles since it occurred on both.  Sometimes it is only on one parent profile.

If there are other siblings, they need to be checked as well because the ghost sometimes hides among them.

Thank you

Gary, you are welcome.  If I hadn't just had it happen, I wouldn't have known how to fix it, but I figured it out the other day. I probably won't remember how to fix it the next time though. I did send something to Jamie so she had a record of the profiles affected.  I just checked to see if the merges had been done around the same time, but they weren't.  Yours and the one I found were a year apart,

I was "chastised" a while ago for removing a ghost profile, but Jamie said it was ok to correct those older than three or four months.  (At the time Jamie gave a specific example, which calculated out to around the 3-4 months prior.)  Anything more recent should be reported in g2g as bug so it can be checked / tracked / whatever Jamie does with ghosts.
Now, I check the date of the merge before correcting, just so I don't get "chastised" again.  (It was not Jamie who did the "chastising".)

Mine was Dec 2018 and Gary's was Dec 2019, so both are well past that time period.

Yep, I noted that.
Was just adding my for future readers looking for guidelines, or the "how to".
