I wanted to share this family photo of Betty Barker with the community. This was probably taken sometime in the 1950s in Cartersville, Georgia. I am unsure of the exact date and location. This was taken many years before I was born. My mother's first husband died and she married again a few years later to my father in the late 1950s. They moved to Stuttgart, Germany, a short time later, where my father was stationed for three years. My brother, Paul F, Jr. ("Pete") was born in Stuttgart.

Mom was a typical 1950s housewife back then. She'd never been anywhere in her life until she married my father. That trip to Germany was a big adventure for her. She loved living there. It was a new experience, and there were many things to see and discover. She always knew that she had Irish (Scotts/Irish roots), but she never had any idea that she had German ancestry as well. She died without knowing this. She would have been delighted to discover this.500px-Barker-13805-3.jpg

Thank you so much! I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment! Yes, she really loved it. It was a wonderful experience. She had never traveled far from home before living in Germany. She loved the country and its beautiful culture and architecture. She also got to travel a little to other countries while she was there. She visited The Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
