Hi Australia Project team

The Sir Robert Sale appears to have arrived (perhaps off the strand) on 5 Jul 1852 (not 7 Jul):

The single female passengers were landed 8 Jul and were available for hire from the Government Immigration Depot from 9 Jul:

Depends which standard you take. Newspapers give the arrival of the vessel at the Harbour, Government sources generally give the day passengers were allowed to disembark.

But even the newspapers can give varying dates.

Also the date used is the last port at which emigrants are disembarked, so if a vessel calls at, say, Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, with emigrants for all, then the date of arrival at Brisbane would be used.

I can see though that the passenger list quoted as the source, has, on the original, 5th.

Thanks Alan. It's probably a bit academic if not pedantic on my part . The ship obviously arrived on the 5th as the mail had been taken off and forwarded on to Melbourne as reported by a newspaper report (which I didn't cite) on the 6th. Disembarkment occurred on the 8th. This delay between arrival and disembarkment happened frequently on the convict ships. Cheers, Neil
Quarantine could also make a huge difference between arrival and disembarking.

I do agree with you on the date, but see what Margaret says.
Thanks Neil and Alan, looks like the 5th is the one to go with, especially with the official passenger list saying 5th, this is where you'd expect members to be researching the arrival of their profile. I'll rename it.
Thanks Margaret
