G2G: Can we add a button to the search page

After adding all the detail for a person on the search page and the result comes up that there are zero matches, I do wish there was a button there to add the person I just searched for!  I've already put in all the detail I know about this person and there are no matches, so why not just add that person from the search page instead of repeating all the info again to create that profile?

“Adding all the detail for a person” may be a case of simply too much information. Try the search with less information: for example, instead of search with birth and death dates, just use the birthdate.

George, I read Janie's post to be requesting that when a search-- however completely done-- reveals that there really is no such profile on WikiTree, that Janie would like wikitree to provide the option to create a new profile with the data already entered into the search boxes.

Right, Janie?

I read the post as the search being overly restrictive. I was thinking from the “less is more” perspective.

Right Jillaine!   I've already entered info that will be needed by a new profile, so why not do from the search page??

Sorry Janie, your idea is ingenious, but as I see it the reason it can't or shouldn't be done that way is that creation of a new profile is a complex operation, requiring much more detailed and finer-grained information than what is entered into the fields on the Search page. Have a look at all the fields on the "add new profile" form (multi-page in the recent beta): most of them have no equivalent on the Search page.

Hi Janie. I know I'm late responding to this, but... one problem I see is that profiles are usually added as a relative of another person, but we don't have that other person on the search page.  It may be possible to add dropdown boxes with options for [Parent/Sibling/Spouse/Child] of [WT-ID].  It's possible to pre-select the option in the first box by guessing (based on the date in the search). It's possible to prefill the second box with the ID of one of the profiles that you have open at the time (and guess which one to use, based on the name, date, etc.).  But the code's guessing might not be great, so you'd probably have to select the relationship of the new person and fill in (maybe type?) the ID of the existing person, which is kind of troublesome - it may be easier to just go to the profile of the existing person and click 'Add (father/mother/etc.)'.  One thing that we could do to make your life slightly less frustrating is to have a button on the Search page after you get the search results.  This button could copy the contents of the form for you.  Then on the new profile page, there could be another button that would let you paste the saved data into the form.  (You may have done this kind of thing with Sourcer.)  Does that sound useful?
