Which Laughlins?

Betty
What part of Alabama? In 1800, Alabama south of the 31 degrees south latitude was part of Spanish West Florida. That includes most of Mobile and Baldwin counties. Washington county was just north of Spanish West Florida. Most of the rest of what became Alabama was Indian Lands.

A good place for you to start is by using the free search tool at: https://familysearch.org/search.   Plug in names/date ranges/locations etc.  You may come up with birth, marriage, death or census data, with information that extends your tree.
