My grandfather was in the army however all attempts to trace any medals or any details about him whatsoever have drawn a blank although we know he was stationed in India there seems to be nothing on record about him at all as if the person I know was my grandfather never existed.

Was he in the US military? If so, the records may have been lost in the fire that destroyed many records.
