G2G: Advice for categorization of Tromp-457?

Question

I would like advice or may need help creating a new category for the profile of Maarten Harpertszoon Tromp. The category might be named something like Netherlands_Naval_History.

Could I get help creating the new category? Or is there an existing category to use? Thank you!

Very confusing. I agree with your comment on the misuse of categories in order to make it something national.

In my humble opinion the proper order should be:

country_Militairy_ Sea (or land/air)_Person (or place/object) etc.

category names should always be in english. If other national languages are used the information is nearly unretrieveable for WKTreers.

Categories do have parallel structures in other languages than English. The same category in different languages are then coupled with aka-template. The people in these coupled categories will be visible the other coupled categories.

For example, the Dutch language category Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland, Nederland and the English language category Rotterdam, The Netherlands are coupled with the aka-template. Therefore it doesn't matter whether you put [[Category: Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland, Nederland]] or [[Category: Rotterdam, The Netherlands]] on a profile. The profile will appear in both categories.

However it seems some Dutch language categories weren't made in this way. They were made to represent a category for the Netherlands.

There is a category Maritieme geschiedenis, which is used for Dutch naval history.

Although I think here categories in a different language (which should be coupled using the aka-template) are used incorrectly as a country category.
