Where does a 'tag' differ from a 'category'?

I am just confused by the complexity of de category world and tagging seems te do the samen (not quit but close)
in WikiTree Help by Peter van der Burg G2G6 Mach 1 (15.5k points)

A category applies to a profile; a tag applies to a G2G post.

Hi Peter, tags are not for profiles that you create but for you so you can direct what you see in your G2G feed. If you look at the top of the page you can see "My Feed". If you click on that you'll see a list of questions relating to your tags. You are of course free to go to the "tags" tab at the top page too and browse through the list of tags just by clicking.
