I am looking for any info on a George Allen Garrett 1878-1928 possibly born in GA, USA, particularly his parents. i am unable to find him on any census, i do know he married Callie Griffin Cochran in late 1920, had at least one child, George Freeman Garrett, b 1923-2000.  George Allen is the supposed link to my Garrett line, but i am unable to make any strides moving backwards.  any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

That is the one.  i am looking for his parents and i think the secret lies on the 1920 census, or ones farther back, i just cannot locate any.  thanks for your research.

I have not yet been able to locate George Garrett but I have found Callie.  She married at least four times:  1908 to Harvy Cochran, 1916 to Will Clark, by 1923 to George Garrett and by 1935 to Edward Westbrook.  She is on the 1910 and 1940 censuses. On the 1940 census with Edward Westbrook she has a daughter Novella M. Garret (b.1926 Tn.) living with them. The 1930 census shows her as widowed with 4 children (all named Garrett however the first two were actually children of Harvy Cochran).

(Callie's memorial has a photo of her)

see Callie's familysearch profile for  sources and links to the censuses https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/GNPW-CLJ

She must have either not have completed the marriage process with Will Clark or divorced him very shortly after mariage.  He shows getting married in 1917 to a Hattie Flake and there is a marriage record for GA Garrett and Callie Cathren (should be Cochran) in 1920.   I added the source to their familysearch profile.

There was another George A. Garrett in Dyer, TN. He was born in March 1863. Was Callie his second wife and the headstone DOB incorrect?

I do think investigating the other Garretts buried in the same cemetery might yield more clues...

Great question, i had not considered that. i am looking for sources for both Georges, i think a 1920 census would go a long way.  I am also looking for death notices to see if i can locate a burial site for the George in Dyer County, TN, just no luck so far.  Thanks for looking.

According to his profile on familysearch (which I see no sources provided) it lists Callie's son, George Freeman Garrett as born in "Mengelwood, Dyer, Tennessee". He then appears with her on the 1930 census in Gibson county, Tn.

I would imagine that there are not very many "Garretts" that married a "Callie" in the same state let alone had a son named George Freeman born in 1923.

The George A Garret born in 1863 may be an uncle ? If his memorial is wrong then it is possible that this George is the same.  His wife died in 1914 and he is listed as single and children are gone by the 1920 census.  Then the 1920 marriage to Callie in Dyer County.

Their daughter, Mattie Novella's obituary lists the same information that is on familysearch for siblings and parents https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/76902619/mattie-novella-allen
