Looking for clues about my Great Grandfather George Hewitson; according to 1911 Easington census he was a resident Isle of Man, as was his father George, but I can't find any records, not even the Isle of Man newspapers mentioned on this site, going round in circles!

Hi Helen!  We would need a bit more information to go on.  Could you include his birth year as per the 1911 Census?  Also his father's birth year?  Any other family members mentioned in that Census?  If you could start a profile for him with all the info you know so far, including his wife and kids, that would be great!  A link to the 1911 census mentioning him would be super too!

Meanwhile, i'm puzzled by the mention of the Easington census in connection with the Isle of Man as the residence.  Is the Isle of Man showing as the birthplace of your great-grandfather?  It would seem he was residing in Easington, which is not a town on the Isle of Man.  There is an Easington in County Durham, is that the place where they are enumerated in 1911?

I'd really like to help, but just need a bit more info for starters

Cheers

There is a George Hewitson profile here on WikiTree https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hewitson-126  He passed away in 1917 about age 68 in Easington.  Is he one of yours?
Hi, Thank you for replying. The George Hewitson you mention is not the one I am searching for.

The 1911 census for Easington says dob: 1852 place of birth: Resident, Isle of Man and I just can't find anything about him.  https://www.familysearch.org/search/ark:/61903/1:1:XWHQ-2YL

To be honest I have assumed his father to be George Hewitson as well as there as one living near him in Easington who was also born Isle of Man (born 1814).  All coal miners so am assumed they all upped and left Isle of Man/Cumbria for work in the area. Possibly brothers too:  Thomas 1845, William 1846, possibly Robert 1851.

There are so many George Hewitsons I keep hitting walls as the Isle of Man searches have yielded nothing.

Hi Helen!  I started a profile for the George Hewitson that you identified from the 1911 Census.  Here is his profile:

Please put all the information your know about him on that profile.  I've made a Research Notes section where you can also jot down your theories.

Cheers

Whitehaven, Cumbria might be a possible location that George once lived.

Looks like he and Margaret got married around 1874.  It would be really useful to look for a marriage.

If you could purchase or somehow see any of the children's birth certificates, that would give you Margaret's maiden name which would help you identify the marriage.  The marriage cert will give his father's name and occupation.
