War of 1812 - Locations for two New York Regiments

Question

Hi forum,

Does anyone know from what area of New York these two regiments were from (originated/formed/mustered-in) during the War of 1812?

• 2 REG'T (BEDEL'S), NEW YORK MILITIA

• 23 REGIMENT (COOK'S), NEW YORK MILITIA

New York Units, War of 1812 (wikitree.com)

I'm particularly interested in where "COOK'S" 23rd regiment was from, but any information about either would be most welcomed.

The War of 1812 is tough to research, particularly for militia units, Gary.  I took a look around and came up blank.

Above is link - this is the first part: BY the Act of Congress approved June 26, 1812, twenty-five regiments of infantry were provided for. Where the 23d Regiment was recruited is at present in doubt, but it is thought that it was recruited by Major J. R. Mullany near Canandaigua, N. Y. It took part during the three years of the war of 1812 in many of the battles and campaigns in New York and Canada.

By the Act of Congress approved March 3, 1815, the army was reduced and the 23d Infantry was consolidated with the 6th, 16th, 22d and 32d, to make the present Second Infantry.

The 23rd Infantry Regiment is an infantry regiment in the United States Army. It was formed on June 26, 1812 and saw action in 14 battles during the War of 1812.  In 1815, it was consolidated with the 6th, 16th, 22nd, and 32nd Regiments of Infantry into what is at present the 2nd Infantry Regiment. The modern 23rd Infantry regiment was formed during the American Civil War and has seen action in American wars up to the US War in Afghanistan and the Iraq War.
