I have posted before in regard to lost cemeteries. There are numerous reasons why graves are not always evident. This article pertains to one specific instance which leads me to believe it is not an isolated instance. ‘A public disgrace’: The forgotten desecration of bodies at Kansas City Union Cemetery

My Draper cemetery was paved over by the SC Highway Department!  They are not happy!

AN ODE to THOMAS & LUCY DRAPER by Dave Draper (C)2022)

  • Thomas Draper Jr., from Farnham, Virginia way,
  • Was in need of a wife, and was married one day
  • To Lucy Coleman, who became his wife,
  • And moved to South Carolina, to start a new life!
  • They had a lot of kids, and farmed in "Twelve Mile"
  • They lived and loved, and had hard times for a while.
  • But, they never lost a smile, as they grew old and weak,
  • They were buried in a plot out by "Mill Creek"
  • Well, one day the State needed a road to carry
  • Trucks and cars through that Draper Cemetery.
  • It was built over their graves, because they didn't care
  • They removed the old tombstones located there!
  • But they left what was left, just dust in those graves,
  • With rock and asphalt , the highway was paved
  • So, be warned, when traveling down there at night,
  • Strange things some have seen really gave them a fright!
  • Ghost like specters have been said to appear,
  • When you take a look back in the rear view mirror
  • If you are family, there is nothing to fret
  • Road Workers, beware! It's YOU they will get!

Background:  Thomas and Lucy Coleman Draper were have said to buried in Moncks Corner South Carolina.  That is what Find A Grave says, and the book Draper Families In America!  BUT THEY ARE WROOOOONG!

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Draper-40  Thomas Draper Jr.

The book says Thomas signed his will in Union County (District) SC and was buried in Moncks Corner, SC

I investigated where Union County SC was Compared to Moncks, Corner, SC.  They are 161 miles apart!!!  RED FLAG RED FLAG.  This is the year 1811.  Who in God's name signs a will in in one county then travels, by foot, on an 8 to 10 day journey to be buried in a Baptist Church Cemetery?  If the writer of that book just did her research, this would not have caused our family so much grief for years!

Thomas and Lucy Draper, and all unknown family members, are buried under a road in Union County SC!

So I wrote the poem, and wrote Find A Grave and gave them our Draper Family research!  We are waiting to see what they reply!

All too often, a picture is worth a thousand words! The article i attached is of a Historic Cemetery w/ civil war veteran, paupers and dignitaries. Due to fraud and corruptions, now has a drive through service in the name of progress.

Kevin, I have a poem that goes along with that picture.  I'll "dig it up" and edit my answer.  Give me a few minutes to find where I "buried" it! Mooohahahahahahaah!

Fabulous David, just fabulous! You should have been a song writer for a famous Rock 'n Roll or Country Western band. laugh

Leigh, thank you! It was not like I didn't try.  It takes more than talent to break into that business!  I'm an artist on two levels. Sign painting paid the bills, and we raised 5 kids!  Song writing did not pay the bills! You are my 23rd cousin, so we share a grand father 25 generations back, and that works for me!
