G2G: Where to put a picture collection, gathered by an ancestor from 1866-1947

I have a collection of pictures gathered by my ancestor Nicolaas Johannes Brümmer, mainly about his Brümmer and van Zyl ancestors.  Some of these pictures were clearly important to him, but it is not anymore clear who they were. Some are copies of daguerrotypes (a technique that came available in 1839), or comparable.

I started by adding a few of these to personal web pages. But since some are not 100% clearly identifiable, it may be better to simply put the collection together somewhere, with the information I have. Then others can try to find the right connections.

Maybe it would be good to put them in a Free Space page. Here is a wikitree help page with information on free space profiles and free space projects.

Thanks. I noticed the existence of the 'project', and 'free space', and wasn't clear abou tthe difference.

My other question was how far I can trust WikiTree to serve my pictures. Does WikiTree assume they will be the owners of my pictures, and the work of everybody here? Is there a chance that in the future WikiTree will get owners who want to mine the personal data of everybody for profit?  I see much about the code of conduct of WikiTree contributors, but little about the place where all this common effort is hosted. I hope that WikiTree is like wikipedia, a real commons, with the corresponding legal statements about creative commons rights that guarantee these commons for the longer run.

Hmm, I guess we can't say what will happen in the future but I would far rather take my chances with Wikitree than deal with the like's of the paywall sites that are busy gathering up all the public domain material to sell back to us.

Here is an "About" wikitree help page that you might not have seen.
