Hello!
My name is Bill Denert. I am of Italian, German and Eastern European ancestry. I have been interested in genealogy for a number years and have built a pretty good family tree already.
I would love to expand my tree, especially on my paternal side. My grandparents were ethnic Germans who lived in central Poland before emigrating to the US; my grandmother in 1902 (Fritz) and my grandfather in 1913. I have traced my grandmother's parents and also my great-great grandfather (Franz Schmidt), but the trail goes cold after that.
I always thought that two world wars would have caused considerable upheavals in regard to birth, marriage and death records, but one of the websites that I've relied on (uppervistula) informed me that church records were largely preserved despite the damage that the wars caused in Poland.
I would like to dig further into my paternal family, both the Fritz's and the Denert's. The latter has been woefully misspelled and mispronounced thus making it more difficult to trace that family.
If anyone out there has an idea how I can find more records I would heartily appreciate it!
Thank you!
Bill Denert
