Who were the parents of Thomas Cornell (Cornell-30)?

I'm trying to merge the large number of duplicate profiles for Thomas Cornell (1594-1656); and of course you can't merge profile pages when there are duplicate parent pages as well. In Thomas's case, there are not only duplicate parent pages, but *conflicting* parents:

1. Richard Cornell and Mary Unknown (some say she was Mary Terry)

2. George Cornell and Susan (one says Joan) Casse

From the initial review of the published research, it appears that the most recent and significant research was published by Prentiss Glazier in "The English Origins of the Cornwell/Cornell Family" in The American Genealogist, volume 51 (Jan 1975), p115 and an unfortunately unpublished manuscript by the same author later in 1975, "Thomas Cornell (or Cornwell) (1594-1655/6) of Mass., N.Y. and R.I."

Glazier admits both possibilities above (without naming a spouse of William), but leans towards George Cornell and Susan Casse because their son had a full brother named Joshua, and Thomas of Rhode Island named a son Joshua.

I have not seen the actual unpublished manuscript, only read about it as written by others, specifically Jean E. Mack and Clair Cornell's "Unravelling one Massachusetts-to-Iowa Cornell Line," in The American Genealogist, 58 (Jan 1982):77

Am I missing anything? Has there been subsequent research that has confirmed Thomas Cornell's parents either way?

If not, we should detach both sets of parents from a merged profile and link to them as possibilities in the narrative.

Thanks!

I believe that the parents of Thomas Cornell (b1594 or 1595) were Richard Cornell (1565) and Mary Mancell (1567).  Richard's parents (grandparents of Thomas) were George or Richard Cornell (1539) and Susan Casse(1543) .

I'm Brand new to WikiTree, having just discovered it. I got this parentage answered by Ancestry when I built my tree there. They said that (Sir) Richard Cornell was my 10th Great Grandfather - his parents (my 11th GGF )were George Cornell (1539-1636) and Susan Casse (1543-1567). George Cornell's parents were (12th GGF) Richard Cornell (born 1516 died 1563 -died ) and Margaret Dagnet  (born 15221587). and Richard's father was (my 12th GGF) Robert Cornwell (born 1495 in Essex, England). Is this the final answer?

Welcome to WikiTree, Pauline.

Thomas' profile has been updated since I originally posted this thread. Unless you find otherwise, none of those ancestry.com trees provides definitive sources for the parental claims made over there.

Read his profile here (linked to in my original post) for why we've detached him from any parents.

Pauline, one thing you'll encounter here at wikitree is a shared distrust of Ancestry family trees. We seek original sources-- documentation from our ancestor's era-- to confirm what we know about them. Most family trees there don't cite good sources if they cite anything at all.
