Hear Ye, Hear Ye

If you are interested in people who are famous, notable, noted, significant, important, historic, heroic, or otherwise fascinating, then the Notables Project might be for you!

The idea behind this post is for anyone who needs help with connecting Notables to the tree to post to this thread and ask for help, or if you want to tell us whom you have successfully connected up, or if you want to join the Notables Project and get a badge.

Besides checking out the Notables Project page, don't forget to take a look at the Notables List page, where you can find lists of Notables who have profiles which aren't yet connected to the main tree. (For ideas on way to connect unconnected people and branches, see the Hints and Tips on the Connectors Chat page.)

Notables should fulfill the criteria to have at  least one Wikipedia page in any language to qualify as a Notable. But an entry in the country's NATIONAL Who's Who or a NATIONAL Biography is also acceptable as well.

The Notables team will decide if a Living Notable's Profile can be made Public or not. Usually that means the Notable has at least 3  Wikipedia Pages in other languages. The page or pages must also include the name of at least one close or nuclear family member (Specifically parents, siblings, spouse or child). if the page should also happen to list grandparents, aunts/uncles and cousins in the "other relatives" list, those would also be helpful.

Today, I created the Category: Radio Hall of Fame.

See: https://www.radiohalloffame.com/

We, contributors of the Notables Project, seem to be focusing on the visual arts, but between the time that commercial radio came to the masses before television and up to today's satellite radio now, we are missing the opportunity to honor those folks who worked in radio.

Re: Art Laboe, etc.

I think I've looked for this one from time to time, but I rarely create categories anymore. Once the categorization project came along, I never know what their plan is for the overall architecture. But this one is pretty obviously missing (until now). Thanks, Judi! I think the person I might have wanted to put there awhile back was the voice on the radio of SUPERMAN, Bud Colyer, but I may be misremembering things. It's been awhile...

Are we connected

Hi Shiralee - at the moment, I don't see a connection to your profile that connects to the global tree, but keep adding more family members and I'm sure we'll find one sooner or later.

Can you please open, for viewing, the living notable Aníbal António Cavaco Silva:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cavaco_Silva-1

He is a former Portuguese president and prime minister.
. Has Wikipedia pages in 65 languages
. Notables Project was added to the trusted list and is a profile manager

Is linked to the main tree (52 degrees to the center, through the Brazilian president João Figueiredo, the last of the military dictatorship - both have ancestors in Algarve, Portugal).
by Anonymous Anonymous G2G6 Mach 3 (30.4k points)

One spouse and 1 brother mentioned. No parents listed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aníbal_Cavaco_Silva

I'll have to wait until I can login this evening to the Notables account as I don't have access personally to this one. Will let you know.

Profile has been given PPP and is now Yellow privacy. Thanks!

Sign me up for April!yes

I'm still working Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, tediously searching for lesser known Notables.  Finding a lot of Silent Movie Stars, Directors and Writers.

Just added:

Victor Sutherland (1889-1968)

Linda B. (Dubsky) Sutherland (1910-1986)

Cecil Barker (1916-1966)

John Dudley Ball Jr. (1911-1988)

Parley Edward Baer (1914-2002)

Plus I try to add their spouses, parents, siblings, children...It's a lot of work!wink

by David Draper G2G Astronaut (5.1m points)

Hi David - good to have you on board for updating the Notables profiles! I greatly appreciate all your hard work.

David, echoing Scott's thanks.  Two notes.

1. Check and do not create duplicates of profiles that already exist.

2. Ensure that you have proper justification for images that you upload. e.g. Commercial sites such as Ancestry.com and Find-A-Grave do not generally allow republishing images. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Photos_FAQ

Here are our March statistics. Keep in mind that the WikiTree Plus statistics do exclude the unlisted Notables, however, we're also using the total in category to help balance that number. Note that I'm trying to work on opening as many unlisted Notables as we can, and at least making sure Notables is on the Trusted List (if not as co-manager) of all the profiles in the Notables unlisted bucket. If you do create one, please try to remember to add Notables, so that there's some visibility into them. (Thank you).

Quick statistics for the end of March:

- Total Notables (from Category): 59,552 (Previous months: 58,440, 57,616)

- Total Notables (from WikiTree+ with template or sticker): 58,987 (previous months: 57,869, 57,005, 55,764, 55,560, 54,672)

- Search of NOTABLES/UNCONNECTED:  18,358 (31% of total) (previous months: 18,045, 17,796, 17,367, 17,143, 16,839)

- Search of NOTABLES/ISLIVING: 4,719 (8% of total) (previous months: 4,654, 4,585, 4,477, 4,455, 4,414)

- Search of NOTABLES/OPEN: 53,833 (91% of total) (previous months: 52,794, 52,002, 50,863, 50,137, 49,396)

- Search of NOTABLES/OPEN/UNCONNECTED: 15,917 (27% of total) (Previous months: 15,608, 15,381, 15,021, 14,796, 14,512)

If anyone needs help locating these profiles for connecting someone who is Open privacy, I can come up with dozens very quickly.

If there are other statistics that would seem useful, please let me know and I can add them to the capture list.

What is the Wikitree+ search you use for all unconnected notables?  Also, do you know what the search parameters would be added I wanted to included the text of  Canada to search for all unconnected notables from Canada?

When I use https://plus.wikitree.com/function/WTWebProfileSearch/Profiles.htm?Query=Tree%3Dunconnected+Manager%3DWikiTree-11&MaxProfiles=5000&SortOrder=BiDa&PageSize=500, I only receive the profiles managed by the Notables Project and not the ones with stickers or those managed by other projects.

For unconnected Notables, I just use those two key words: "Unconnected" and "Notables". The number that comes up is similar to a category search when we use WT+ to compare with a Category count, so I'd suspect the simple Unconnected and Notables seems to come close to the true number.

For Canada, it's probably a bit more complex. Unconnected Notables Canada brings up all those with the place name of "Canada", so you have to weed through those that you don't need. "Canada Sticker" helps, but you're only going to get the sticker version and it doesn't discriminate between things like Notables Sticker and Canada Sticker. I tried Canada Project, and that didn't seem to help at all. You might try the WikiTree ID under the ProjectManaged keyword, but even then, you're only going to get profiles "managed" by the project.

Ales can run a custom report - he has tools and access that the rest of us don't have. You might just ask him directly as he's practically the owner of WT+.

I'm happy to announce that the first black male actor to receive an Academy Award James Baskett is now connected to the global tree. A special thank you to JUDI STUTZ who created a profile that eventually lead to his connection. Sometimes we really don't realize how important a small contribution can be, but because we're collaborating on all sorts of areas, one find, leads to someone else making another find, which leads to bigger finds, which eventually leads to a breakthrough.

by Scott Fulkerson G2G Astronaut (1.6m points)

Remaining Academy Award winners yet to be connected:

Emil Jannings

Paul Lukas

Katina Paxinou

George Pal

Barry Fitzgerald

Claude Jarman, Jr. (no profile created yet - still living)

Ivan Jandl (no profile created yet - Czechoslovokian child actor)

Karl Malden - CONNECTED

Edmond O'Brien

Danny Kaye

Jon Whiteley (no profile created yet - Scottish child actor - deceased in 2020)

Vincent Winter - CONNECTED

That would get us up to 1955 on the Best Actor/Supporting Actor/Actress/Supporting Actress and Honorary categories.

Hi

One French noteable I found was a Detective. Love to see him featured and his profile needs bit work done on it.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Vidocq-1

Billie

Faye Dunaway is now connected.

Did a quick look - I've got 536 records in my Academy Awards list - note that some are those who have won the award multiple times, so it's not that many people.

Out of that list, 412 records show someone who is connected. Out of the remaining - 61 do not have profiles and 63 are unconnected. Taking into account duplicate award winners, it's likely that we have about 60 without profiles and about 60 without connections. Not too bad overall. Of course, I may have just not "found" the profiles for those missing them, but it does feel like we're making tremendous progress on these award winners.

Re: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Vidocq-1

Bio, formatting and category improvements have been made.

Hmm... I wonder which character he inspired Poe to write?

Vincent Winter should be connected tonight after the links update.

Karl Malden should show as connected when the links update tonight.

by Judi Stutz G2G6 Pilot (393k points)

Her profile has been opened for editing. Thanks!

Thank you, Scott. Her profile has been improved but still needs a photo.

Continuing with the saga of one of my favourite authors - Lisa St. Aubin de Teran (Thank you Scott for making her profile public) - I have now added profiles of her 2nd and 3rd spouses.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/MacBeth-271

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Scott-55759

Both spouses have died so their profiles are open.

As to the Notable Tag, they both do have Wikipedia pages, and they are both linked (Married) to a Notable - namely Lisa. So does that qualify for them for the notable tag?

I have no idea who the parents of George MacBeth are.

Robbie Scotts parents are easier to trace, but I don't know when or why he changed his name to Duff-Scott.

Profiles should be connected overnight.
by Robynne Lozier G2G Astronaut (1.4m points)
edited by Robynne Lozier

Yes - if they have a Wikipedia page in any language, they should be given either the template or sticker, as appropriate. If they're non-Open, Notables should be added as co-manager. Thanks!

Thanks Scott.

Notable Sticker has been added to both spouses.

A bit off topic, but if I wanted to nominate someone for as a Notable (they have a Wikipedia page & plenty of public information, but are still alive) how can I submit a profile?
by Loralee Hutton G2G6 Mach 2 (26.7k points)

If they have 3 or more Wikipedia language pages, and at least one nuclear family member mentioned (parent, child, sibling, spouse - preferably more than just a name), they would qualify for Living Notable status here on WT.
If you have created / choose to create the profile, you will need to add a Project as co-Manager, and a leader of that project, so the profile can be properly PPP and opened to yellow privacy.

Oh, that sounds good. This one is listed on 12 language pages & I've created pages for his nuclear family. Although, his parents are still living, so I've left them private & the next closest relative are grandparents.

I've spent the day finding a connection to an existing wikitree family, so this profile I'm working on will be connected to the main tree by tomorrow.

How do I find the names of project leader who can take the next steps?

If you don't request a Country Project to co-manage, it pretty much needs to be Notables Project, done by adding the Project's email to the Trusted List, then making it co-manager (and also using the Notables Project Box {{Notables}} instead of the sticker).  Then you'd need either Scott or David added to the TL and made co-manager so they can adjust the privacy level.

Once you have the profile-ID# (and have done the above-mentioned TL additions), you can post here requesting the privacy level be opened for a Living Notable.

I forgot to include the link - the Notables Project email can be found under "Goals" https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Notables

Thanks Melanie! :)

I created a profile for recently deceased Notables who was the founder of “Cash App” Bob Lee-44194 (stabbing victim) and his deceased mother.

I am having computer problems right now, so I welcome anyone who wants to add more relatives. Otherwise I will get back to it when I am up and running again.
