Hi Doug,
Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your time and help. Over the years I have traced parts of the Hobgood family from North Carolina to western Kentucky and particularly the Hopkins County area. The father of Mary Ann Moore, John Green Hobgood, is one of the Hobgood family that was reared in Kentucky as our country expanded. I have also collaborated with member of this specific family, and they use Hobgood as their surname. It appears to me that in the name of Mary Ann Moore at this FindAGrave entry that Hapgood is used as a variant spelling of Hobgood. Even the name Hobgood has been included in parentheses along with Hapgood. I consider Hapgood in this example as a variant spelling of Hobgood, an isolated case, and does not provide family evidence of a connection with the New England Shadrack Hapgood and his descendants. Thanks again for your help and finding an interesting adaptation of the Hobgood name. I am still looking a more satisfying answer to my question. Leonard F. Dean
