Just for fun!  Where does your name originate from?  You just might be surprised to find out where it came from.  As the spelling of English was not standardized during the Middle Ages, Names are found in many different forms in written records.  The following Medieval English Names are just one small list:

The Common Names which follow accounted for approximately 70% of the male population during the 13th and 14th centuries:  Adam, Geoffrey, Gilbert, Henry, Hugh, John, Nicholas, Peter, Ralf, Richard, Robert, Roger, Simon, Thomas, Walter and William.

The Common Names which follow accounted for approximately 60% of the female population during the 13th and 14th centuries:  Agnes, Alice, Avice, Beatrice, Cecily, Emma, Isabella, Joan, Juliana, Margery, Matilda and Rohesia.

There are many different ways to spell the same name.  Check to see if you can find your name the way you spell it along with its origin by clicking on this web site.  http://www.infernaldreams.com/names/Europe/Medieval/England.htm
Happy Friday to everyone!

I have been approached by a friend to research her family tree, so I'm working on that when I'm not cramming for my final (2/3 of my finals are over, because those professors chose not to participate in the official finals schedule, by my Trig professor is sticking with the schedule, so I have a 2.5 hour Trig final next Thursday, ugh). I'm excited, because this is the first person who actually wants to pay me to do research on her family, though we are close enough friends that I felt too weird to take money from her, so she's taking me out to dinner instead.

Was momentarily sidelined from fun activities when our paraplegic corgi dislocated a hip on Tuesday. So, I am spending the weekend home with her while she convalesces, instead of camping and enjoying sunshine.

Also, after two years of saying I will do it, I have started a couch-to-5k program (some of us take longer to get off the couch than others). It helps that my S/O has also started the program. I tend to be more successful when everyone else in my household is doing the same thing.

After a year of attempting to pull of my natural color, I have decided to return my hair to purple for the summer.
I've been neglecting my WikiTree lately.

A couple of days ago I got an email from my father: "Greetings from Dublin." He's never been to Ireland. In a country filled with people who are overly romantic about their Irish roots, my father stood out as a man utterly unsentimental--if not disdainful--of his past. So he always brushed me off when I begged him for stories of the family. Suddenly, at 76, he's "on the old sod" (as my mother puts it.) Hope he has a good time.

Jazz pioneer Ornette Coleman died recently. He was born and raised Fort Worth, Texas, where I live. My maternal grandfather was the first to be born here, in 1912. I live in a part of town once known as Rock Island Bottom. It was as close to a Harlem as Fort Worth ever had. It was the center of African-American business and culture. There are still bits of it, if you know where to look. And every so often I talk to someone who remembers it  "back in the day." Recently, at a jazz concert, I learned about the Jim Hotel (sort of our Cotton Club, now gone and replaced with a freeway ramp and parking lot). It's a shame it's all gone and even more of a shame there's so little documentation of it.

From now till the end of September, all my weather reports will be the same: it is hot.

Hello all. My name is Alexis GRIVEAU and my mother name is URBANY. I'm really happy to join your community. My faily comes from different country : Hungary and Spain for my mother's family and Italy and Quebec for my dad's family.

I'm 26 and I have create my own society of services in Paris two years ago.

If you have any questions, no problem ! cool

* What do you do besides WikiTree?

No true WikiTreer does anything else.

Even the people who go to work are merging whenever the boss isn't looking.
by Living Horace G2G6 Pilot (625k points)
Funny stuff RJ... very true I'm sure :)
:-)

Love it, RJ.
I must confess. I am A Wikitree addict. Work and Wikitree that's about it. My fun stuff is photographing headstones, documenting cemeteries and updating Find A Grave memorials. Household chores get done when I need a break from the computer screen.

hahaha my family sometimes say it's ''Wicked tree'', if they don't get my attention quick enough cheeky addicted as well of course.

Already ''mentally preparing'' for the holidays , our cottage in the forest with no electricity, no wifi ..nothing..so a few weeks no Wikitree  indecision

But a few weeks  quality time in the forest with my loved ones and having a great time as well of course laugh

I will remember Wicked-Tree....there are days that I feel that way when I am untangling some family branches...
When I'm not WikiTreeing, I race motorcycles. I guess those are two hobbies that complement each other in a Yin and Yang kind of way.
I love this post about when the boss isn't looking, true Wikitree ers are merging!!

"No true WikiTreer does anything else"  - Wicked-tree, so true. Before I started trying to get the profiles I created, up to WikiTree standards, my days were spent, spinning yarn, weaving, sewing, painting, knitting, long walks, photography, and various volunteer commitments.  But now, the more I edit profiles, the more I see what needs to be researched and verified. Then there is all the info I have, for adding in-laws to the in-laws cousins.

I agree. When Chris was trying to make sure that a new wrinkle he had just added to WT worked correctly, I got an email at 2;20AM to see if I could test it.  Of course, I wasn;t in bed.  I was on WT!
I suppose pop-ups like on the Wii game-systems suggesting we take a break and go for a walk every so often wouldn't work any better than they do for Wii adicts.
When I'm not on WT, I sail.  And when I'm not sailing, I'm on WT.  It is a vicious circle.
Ah love WikiTree for my OnePlaceStudy and all the advise I get from the OnePlace Mentors.   Besides this I have two fur-children that demand my attention and enjoy doing google plus hangouts with my friends across the world.

My husband last night, also waay past midnight of course, asked if we were going to bed or ...if it was time to get up already cheeky Sometimes I feel like a vampire devil just as I decide it's enough WT for the day, of course I find all kinds of info I just need to add immediately , than arriving at a messy profile that needs organizing before I can add anything ....aaarghh ...and before I know it spend another hour Wikitreeing...

I USED to race motorcycles. 1976 - 81 and 1990- 98. I still work corners sometimes.
I must not be totally addicted to WT. I have other pursuits. Right now I'm building a dining table for a niece. And, in season, I do yard work. You just have to learn to pace yourself, or your spouse will rain on your parade.

At 18 it was AC-DC, the Steve Miller Band, and Guns-n-Roses on cassette tapes.  The best songs always got worn out first.  Remember having to "re-wind"?

Tips for newer members:  Take your time in creating profiles for your ancestors.  Read about Sources and add them to the profiles as you go.  If you have questions you can Contact a Mentor or post here in G2G.

The Global Family Reunion was everything it's cracked up to be.  The best part was meeting and working with Chris, Erin, Mags, Eowyn, Roland, Tom, Lianne, and Karen.  The energy level and positivity was inspiring.  I'm more committed than ever to WikiTree and already planning on attending next year.

The Integrators Project is in need of a Project Coordinator.  The ideal person we're looking for is motivated and does well working with others.  Experience as a Greeter and Mentor is helpful; Super-Stars and Leaders are invited for sure.

Today will be a mix of yardwork and WikiTree for me!

by Keith Hathaway G2G6 Pilot (634k points)
No Keith, I don't remember rewinding my cassettes.  I knew from the beginning you could play them to the end and then take them out and play them the other way.  Remember?  Unless of course you wanted to hear the same side again.  And then came, wait....auto-reverse........oooh//technology

I liked the 8-tracks.  An endless loop.  I had a quadraphonic 8-track player that always had The Best of Cream in.  The player was hooked to the wall switch so whenever I went into my bedroom I would hit the light switch.....So many fantastic colors....I feel in a wonderland....I think that tape was in the deck from like 1972 until 1974.
I never heard of those groups or people or whatever/whoever they were!  When I was a teenager, it was Elvis, Pat Boone, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Harry Belafonte, and my absolute favorite of them all was Johnny Mathis.

Robin, my first car had an AM radio - FM was an expensive option then.

Let me add - Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, Peggy Lee, Debbie Reynolds, Steve Lawrence and Edie Gormet (spelling?), Patti Page, Doris Day, ... and lots more.
I'm sure there are many others that never heard of those musicians either & prefer different musical genres.
Where is Anne? Gaile?  I'd like to know what she was listening to back when she saw her first horseless wagon. :D
Sorry, Vincent - I didn't know it was my turn to watch her

By the way, I never saw a horse drawn wagon.  I grew up in New York City and they didn't have those things there.  I do remember seeing policement doing their beat on horseback, though.  And I once saw an organ grinder with a monkey.  And I rode the trolleys before they were replaced with buses.  People in my world didn't own cars, though - only doctors and lawyers had them.  Parking spaces were very scarce and you would have had to walk farther to where you parked your car than it would generally be to wherever you wanted to go in it.  Besides, you could go within a block of anywhere by bus or subway.
Anne B sings a few verses of "Oh don't you remember Sweet Betsy from Pike"
There are still police on horseback in Amsterdam. Many.  A beautiful stable as well.  And a Heineken wagon gets paraded around town often by majestic Clydedales ever so often but that's just for show.  Those Clydesdales are gigantic and beautiful and very clean and obviously well looked-after.  By the way, what do you call those horse-drawn carts in front of the Plaza in New York (I've seen 'em myself, do they not count because those aren't wagons).  You must have been to Pennslvania at some point and seem Amish with their wagons.
Vincent,

The horse drawn carriages in front of the Plaza are called "tourist traps".

I have seen Amish, not only in Pennsylvania, but also in Southern Maryland, where I had to cope with them (and the umm - err - trails left by the horses) on the road as I commuted to and from work.  Somehow, I didn't associate that as the same thing as the transportaion that was used by everyone before the advent of the automobile.
In Spain you can be speeding down the brand new fabulous road where you could drive as fast as possible and suddenly traffic is backed-up and when you finally get around the obstacle it occasionally is some old-timer with a wagon full of hay being pulled by a mule or a donkey in the middle of the road going about, well zero mph about....

Taking a break from WT today, as the weather here in Malta is warming up,and I have quite a lot of chores to do.

I hold a large tree on my own site, and am gradually moving it over to WT while at the same time double checking all my sources and refernces as I go. I started with a gedcom that I extracted, of my paternal, amd maternal lines, and have been steadily fleshing out the branches. An onerous task, but one that needs to be done.

Famous People?  well I have Dr. Alice M. Stewart, an epidemiologist who first demonstrated the link between X-rays of pregnant women and disease in their children. She appears on a line I have yet to add to WT.

Close Relatives?? Not through WT, but through my research I am now in contact with distant relatives in Australia, NZ , Canada and the US, and now I am making friends on WT

by Dave Welburn G2G6 Pilot (140k points)
Thanks for sharing David.
Hi David,

You might be the first person from Malta I've ever "met".  Glad you are here at WikiTree!

Dr. Stewart sound like an interesting ancestor to have.
Malta's great! My wife and I spent a week on Gozo many years ago.

Thinking you weren't doing any Genea work today...Moving a Tree... how on earth do you move a Tree - especially if it's large!  Have fun David (still need to find your connections to my Welborn/Wilburn's).

Mags

Moving a tree?? its easy... you have to do a lot of digging.

The weather is oppressively hot & humid in Williamsburg, VA today. My garden loves it. I was a landscape designer in a previous life & still like to play in the garden:

500px-Photos_Experiments-34.jpg

I've been spending most of my time on Wikitree working on unsourced profiles.

At 18 I liked lots of bands, but the Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Zeppelin & Clapton stand out in my memory.

Dog or Cat....I like both, but these are my other boys:

We have had over a foot of rain since the beginning of spring.  Another flood advisory for today.  Last night our Genealogy Society meeting had a presentation from the Sons of the American revolution.  21 brave souls braved the thunderstorms.  Unfortunately  we could not go out onto the nice Deck for our Ice Cream Social.  We had to stay indoors.  But with the low attendance, we had plenty of Ice Cream to go around!
Great picture!  Our cat is the only thing keeping all the field-critters from trying to move into our house.  "Monty" patrols the yard and guards the doors.  He regularly disuades chipmunks, weasels, fox, and the dreaded field-mice.
Love the picture, Doug!

On one of our video Hangouts last year people thought it was cute that behind me they could see my two cats staring out the back door just like that, watching a rabbit in the backyard.

One of our dogs caught one of those rabbits last week. She caught it, killed it, and devoured all its internal organs within five or ten minutes! I feel bad for the rabbit, but at least it died quickly. I was more annoyed when I caught the dog chewing on a box turtle like it was bone. :-)
Looks like we have the same taste in music. I am a dog person.

Hot and sunny in Holland Overijssel as well, love it , also love gardening, cats and dogs , your garden really looks great !  We always had two Belgian shepards , but after the last one died we adopted two cats , last year unfortunetally lost one , so now just one cat, a pond with a lot of Koi carps , frogs , pigeons, chickens (my husband's hobby ,pigeons ,births and koi carps) . Enjoy the weather, sunshine beats rain for sure laugh

Nice garden Doug, Wanna come pull my weeds.

Doug,

It looks like your home has the magnivicent formal gardens for which the Colonial era was known.  It must feel like paradise to be surrounded by such beauty.  I'm sure it is a major job to keep it that way - magnficencelike that doesn't happen by itself!!!

My husband and I were merried 8 years ago, long after our children from previous marriages had left ... in fact some of our grandchildren are adults.  We started our own family, though.  At left is 2 year old Renny (short for Renaissance), at right is 4 year old SAM (short for Surfact to Air Missile) and in the center is 7 year old Annie (she was our first anniversary present to each other).  They all came from rescue groups.

Like me :D

Hot and sunny here in NW Mississippi. Working on descendant lists for gr-gp. One group goes from A to Z, with over 2K profiles. One of the wonders of WT. Anyone connected to Robert Harrington-100, contact me. The more cousins, the better.

Hi Robert,

My grandfather would be your 10th cousin; I'm your 10th cousin twice removed.

Nice to meet you!

If you need anything from Vermont let me know :)

Spending my time between work phantasizing about features that would make WikiTree handier: A pop-up saying "Are you really sure?" when somebody enters a location, particularly for the territory of the Holy Roman Empire - or a pop-up of a map of the particular state for the time in question - "Prussia? Really? Whereabouts in Prussia?"

It is muggy in Iowa. Cooler, at least, but muggy. Thunderstorms forecast all weekend, so I will be catching up on indoors things, which is perfect timing with the GFR a week past. Most likely will paint our guest room, organize baby items (we're expecting in seven short weeks), and clean my very scary office. Other than WikiTree....hmmm, it is one of my favorite things to work on. I also spin yarn, knit, and crochet with it, so my evenings often involve balancing the computer on my knee while doing one of those. I also hike and fish and forage. Garden. I have a 1962 Ford Falcon station wagon we take to car shows occasionally. I keep busy :-) At 18 I was listening to all sorts of stuff. The Beatles will forever be my favorite, but Foo Fighters, any classic rock, Garbage, nineties alt rock were all in rotation. I tend toward folksy stuff now, Lumineers, Death Cab for Cutie, Mumford and Sons. Wiki-tip- I sort my watchlist from oldest edit first and work on profiles that came in with my gedcom ages ago, adding sources, rechecking research, seeing what others have found, and sometimes even orphaning if it looks like a better manager is watching over things. I have a long way to go on that list, but whittling away feels nice!
by Abby Glann G2G6 Pilot (722k points)
That is so cool that you forage.  We have at least a dozen types of mushrooms growing on our property but we are never sure of which ones might be good for a gormet meal rather than a trip to the hospital or just a trip.  Pictures online are not convincing enough to experiment.
Mushrooms are definitely best learned from another person, at least at first. We have some great mycology societies here that I consult for new varieties. I try to learn a new one each year to try to find. I got my start from my dad, who learned from his uncle, who learned from his family. I come from a long line of outdoors folks :-)
Nineties rock is great....my sister is taking me to see Alice in Chains in Aug.
They were definitely on my list. I have no clue where all my cassettes and CDs went. I know where my classic rock LPs are, though, lol. They do not get misplaced.
My stars, you all make me feel old..... For me, rock means ZZ Topp, Lynard Skynard, CCR and if I wanted to woo the ladies, it was Jim Croce. Finding my great great grandfather is kicking my butt because I waited to late in life to start worrying about my family's history. Records were kind of in flux in the state of Texas during and shortly after the US unCival War. I know he came from Virginia and was in Texas in 1876 beause that was when Emmaus Kennon (my great grand father) was born. We have one of the only remaining Irish castle courthouses in the USA here in Shelby County, Tx

Favorite Band?  Leontine Price? Stix?  Yes?  The Stanley Brothers?  Wild swings from Opera to Rock to Bluegrass and everything in between.

When I am not WikiTreeing I am cyclling or recycling furniture I find on Garbage day into new furniture or wittling or looking for my grandmother in the 1920 Census, hiking the Canadian shield or hanging out at the cottage, kayaking, swiming, sailing (no tv or phone out there so WikiTree isn't an option) or hanging out with the spousal unitt and our kids.

The dog is Jake Nosey Parker, we call him Jake Parker.  He's a 14 yr old Yorkie/poodle mix and weighs about 4 lbs.  When I wikitree from the sofa, he sits on the back of the sofa with a paw on my shoulder.  If I forget to source something he gently taps me with his paw or licks my ear.

Your tastes in music ......great assortment, kinda like a family tree!
We're garbage pickers, too. People throw away some great stuff!
You know, if I really think about it, my favorite band at 18 was Brahms - I heard his Piano Concerto #1 in D minor live, full orchestra with a great soloist and I couldn't help but spinning it on vinyl or cassette - constantly.  I remember lying on the floor of one of the University listening rooms with a speaker beside each ear blasting it.   Mags
I'm a big fan of classical music....Beethoven, Vivaldi , .....
I don't refer to it as garbage picking....It's called "Shopping" please.  The shops in my street open at 21:00 on Sundays and Wenesdays and are open continuously until the truck comes to pick it up the next morning about 9 - 10 or so.  Actually you could open an antique store from the trash piles in Amsterdam.

* Your favorite band when you were 18? Does rubberband count? My Hair was down below my tush and they were  a lifesaver in hot weather.

* What do you do beside Wikitree? Wait a minute there is other things out there?  I get so engrossed I tend to forget.

* Are you a cat or a dog person? I actually love both. Currently have 2 cats Darth Vader and Wicket. fyi my grandson name is Jacen Anikan  do we sense a theme here?

Very hot and humid here today. Main plan aside from revamping some profiles of my direct line is to pick up new fish tank. the old one broke and we lost most the guppies.

A good hint DO NOT be afraid to ask a question in G2G. The only stupid question is the one never asked.

We have so many cousins here to lend a hand.

Do your cats try Jedi mind tricks on you in order to get treats? Mine try & usually succeed.
Jacky, you're a hoot. I briefly considered Anakin as a name for our third...until we found out SHE was not a he. Great tip!

Oh Abby you need to check my profile pic  someone else said that to me this week too smiley

Doug  Darth Vader is a mooch  he always is begging for wet food and wants loving.

Wicket I actually call her Wicked she keeps eating the Venus fly trap.

Hahahaha, I hadn't seen that!

Working on the cars, yard work and doing things with the grandchildren are my main focus this week. I am also trying to "fix" an "older" computer for the younger one's to use.
by Dale Byers G2G Astronaut (1.7m points)
Any cool cars?
Nope.  2004 Dodge Caravan and 2007 Pontiac Torrent.
If a Dodge Caravan is the same as a Chrysler Voyager it's a cool ride.  You can sleep sideways in them .... and they fly.

My grandfather had a pit in his basement/garage back in the 60's for working on cars (like in an oil change place).  That was that address you looked up for me Doug.  Old houses had custom features like that you don't see much anymore.  If I ever build a house I'll try to remember to put in one of those.
They are the same, and even have the same name today.
Unleaded 95 today in Amsterdam 1.75.....per liter

1 gallon = 3.78

3.78 * 1.75 = 6.61 per gallon (in Euros)

6.61* 1.12 = 7.40 dollars a gallon

(and the price of the fuel is nothing compared to the road tax, insurance and parking..you don't won't to know those)
Gas = $3.84

Tags = $40.00 per year

Insurance = $35.00 per month

We pay About $500 per month for housing and that includes 2 parking spaces.
And I forgot the emmissions test every 2 years and that could cost up to $200 depending on what is wrong with the car.

Hi there.  Travelling through Kentucky, currently at The Land Between the Lakes.  Very hot and humid at the moment.  My husband and I are wandering the US in our trailer ( so happy to have WiFi).  I had no favorite band when I was 18, but a favorite musician... Prince.  I enjoy all music.  Besides Wiki, I love to wander through the woods with my camera and fishing... What else is there in life?  I am a lover of all animals and if I could own a private zoo, I would ;)

Here is an experience for you.... When I first joined WT and stated finding matches, I made the mistake of adopting entire lines of orphaned profiles (thinking they would all be related)!  Today I find myself with the daughting task of going through my list and "unadopting" many of them, all the while trying to find sources as well as correct issues.  UGH, I have a lot of work ahead of me....
by Ann Johnson G2G2 (2.4k points)
Hi Ann,

Being on the road like that must be nice :)

I wore out a Prince tape..."Purple Rain".  Side 2 song one was "When Doves Cry" which was my favorite at the time.

Also in common, I fish.. and I adopted all Hathaway profiles I could get my hands on at first.

I'm glad you posted in the Chat... happy WikiTree-ing!

Just wanted to tell everyone what an incredible blast it was to spend time with some of my WikiTree compadres at the Global Family Reunion in New York City last week, especially my new best friend, Mags Gaulden! Thanks to everyone who was involved in putting together this massive undertaking, but none more so than our own lovable Forest Elf, Eowyn Langholf! It was sooo much fun to be totally immersed in genealogy for the entire day, talking up WikiTree, listening to the stories of people who came by our booth and yelling out "WE ARE FAMILY" right in front of AJ and his family (and Sister Sledge, of course)! If the GFR comes back again next year, and the current thinking is that it will...maybe...you owe it to yourself to go for it, because now, more than ever, we really ARE family!

A shot of the main stage at the Global Family Reunion with Sister Sledge, AJ Jacobs and his family and a cast of thousands singing WE ARE FAMILY!

by Tom Shaw G2G6 Mach 1 (17.4k points)
I was almost right behind you in this shot Tom.... about 20 yards and a thousand people futher back!  Not everyone knew the first song they opened with but everyone was into it anyway... then when they broke out into "we are family" every single cousin of every age was moving to the rythm and singing outloud.  My kids got a kick out of the drone that flew around overhead recoding video of the concert.  Thanks for the great pic, and the great company that day cousin!
Great post, Tom. Thank you for being such a huge help at the WikiTree booth.

If there's any way you can make it out to Salt Lake City in February/March, you'd love RootsTech.

Favorite band when I was 18 was Jefferson Airplane....hey, I am from California, native....what else would you expect?

I am ready for the weekend, car washed, lawn mowed, watering done, walked the vineyard....VINEYARD???   Yup, we own a small vineyard as a retirement hobby.   That is what I do in my non-Wikitree time.

I love dogs and cats...we have one each...PIRL a black shepard mix and Williow, a little grey manx.   Why PIRL?  the spelling comes from the day we picked her up off the back of beat up truck from a guy that wanted to make sure his "puppies" got a good home.  Got the picture?   Well, on the way home, she "P"eed "I"n "R"obin's "L"ap.

What's the weather been like in your neck-of-the-woods?

Hot and rainy in Buffalo.   Rained this morning so now very humd.

* Your favorite band when you were 18?

Never had a favorite band, just listened to a little of everything

* What do you do beside Wikitree?

Model train, gardening, building things for the yard, nude hikes

* Are you a cat or a dog person?

I have one of each, both rescues.

Any stories about famous or infamous ancestors?

So far my family has been very quiet, no one was famous.

Hi Everyone – Welcome to all the New Members.
Thanks to all our hosts for all your efforts.

Life seems to be getting in the way of Wiki for the next couple of months.

Tips and Tricks:
Are you checking Daily or Weekly?
– Sometimes approvals are needed for others to complete a task.

1.  Your pending merges?
Go to FIND Dropdown (upper RH corner) – Pending Merges – (a) Pending Merges Initiated by Me and (b) Pending Merges Waiting for Action by Me."  Part of its coolness is when you complete all your pending merges, you get a "Yay!"

2.  Have you lost track of your Trusted List Requests?
Go to My WikiTree Dropdown (upper RH corner) Requests – will display a list of pending and completed invitations and Trusted List requests made by you and to you-- date requested and whether or not completed.

3.  “Did your Info Disappear . . . .”
Usually it is a missing end ref tag </ref>.

When looking for missing tags you can do a search on "ref" (CTL+F).  That way you can check for begin and end tags easily.

Also, when you set up your source section you should have a <references />
This will capture your "in line" references

Hello, cousins!

I'm brand new to the community, but I'm already in the deep end and loving it.

It's been hot and sunny as usual here in the middle of North Carolina. Before I found WikiTree, I used to hang out at dog-friendly bars with my Havanese.

I would love to have - and you can tell me if this already exists - a way to pin multiple generations to a map, so you can see your different ancestral lines moving across the world and coming together until they get to you.

...like a glass map in a "B" military monster movie where the generals stand there, hand on chin, moving the pins, as the "thing", gets closer and closer....

I know what you mean.  I would like to have one of those as well!

I'm in Northern California and we had been experiencing something that's become common in about the last decade, a "June Swoon": cool and cloudy when it should be starting to heat up.  Then this week we swung wildly between low 90's and humid one day to warm and rainy the next (remnants of a hurricane, I believe) and now mid 80's and dry.

I had been pretty addicted to WikiTree for a good year, but, I've had something of a WikiTree down period where I haven't been on here very much the last four months or so (I blame The Walking Dead, which I got started on and couldn't stop).  I seem to be cycling back into the addiction again in the last week as I've been working on Salem Witch Trials profiles.  Tonight, I successfully added the last of the convicted and executed from 1692, so now they all have WikiTree profiles.  I'm moving on to the main accusers next.

Oh, and favorite band when I was 18?  Well, I was 18 in 1988, an utter dead zone in the music world.  Prior to that, my favorite band was U2 and I suppose they were still my favorite in 1989, but I strongly prefer their stuff from 1979-1984 and I can barely stand most of the stuff they did after Rattle and Hum.
