I have just spent an hour trying to get citations to appear in the 'Sources' section of a biography, with no success... until I realized that along with the <ref>citation text</ref> embedded within the body of the biography, the following code MUST be included at the end of the text:

It was as simple as that. I had deleted it, not understanding that it was a critical piece of information. Once this was included at the end of the text, all was fixed and appeared as it should.
