I have encountered a pocket watch which is engraved with Williams Beckford 1844. Just looking for a descendant who could be interested in this.

Hi Peter,

Good of you to look into this. "William Beckford" seems to be a pretty common name that was probably shared by scores of people around the world from that timeframe. Do you have any more clues as to who your guy was? Where and how was the watch obtained?

I don't have the watch personally. I am in Mexico and am researching for a friend who does not speak English. I have his photos of the watch. The watch is engraved William Beckford, 1844. Liverpool. Wikipedia has William Beckford who died in 1844. He had children. One of which was also named William. For me it's likely that the watch was made for one of them .

The English writer William Beckford has a profile here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Beckford-56. You can click the 'Descendants' button on his profile to take a look. I don't know how complete this descendancy is, and it doesn't look like any are Wikitree members, but there are people of prominence on the list.

England genealogy is not my area of expertise, so if you need more help you could edit your post to add 'England' in the tag field to get the attention of folks here who might help you better.
